Have you ever received a Prince item as a birthday gift? The only one I can remember right now was this Prince book that I got for my XIVth birthday in 1996. It was that documentary by Per Nilsen, y'all know which one I'm talking about. But I was so happy on that day. I thought I wasn't going to get anything, but to my surprise, I got that book. And the timing could not have been perfect. I was full throttle with my comeback obsession for my purple hero. That summer I saw "Under The Cherry Moon" finally (which I got as another gift after my junior high graduation), "Chaos & Disorder" came out which was great, and VH1 had "Purple Rain" in heavy rotation. So I was into him and his musical legacy again. Before all that, My hero worship had been very low. But 1996 saw me come back to the one man that started the whole idea of music for me.

But anyways, I was very happy to get that book. Also, I believe I got the Hits collection on video for Christmas of that year too. Anyone else? Actually a few days ago my husband bought me the Musicology CD. My birthday is June 8th but he got tired of hearing that I wanted it. Besides, I am still upset that I did not get a ticket to the concert. Back when the box set of Hits came out my friend bought me that for my birthday. Whenever there is a new CD or something Prince out around a holiday, my husband buys it for me. I am pretty easy to buy for. It is pretty cool having my birthday a day after Prince's. Though he is a few years older than me. ![]()

A couple of years ago I would go to the record store every Friday with my friend, and every Friday I would point at Crystal Ball and complain about how ridiculously overpriced it was ($45). She got it for me for my birthday so I'd shut up about it.

If it wasn't for my ma buying me "For You", "Prince", "Dirty Mind", "Controversy", "1999", "The Time" and "What Time Is It?" for my 14th birthday (all on vinyl, no less), my spoiled rotten only child ass probably wouldn't be typing this right now.

My brother gave me a ticket to the 1999 tour (Triple Threat) for my 11th birthday. He also let me pick anything I wanted from the show, I picked the poster of the Time against the chainlink fence. God I love my brother. When asked about that reunion with Melvoin, Prince grows wistful. "She plays acoustic guitar with me better than almost anyone. "The opportunity came up and her name was the first to come to mind. I'm looking for things to juice me too."

My husband always wants to. One year he got me both Crystal Ball and Emancipation, and last year he got me 2 DVDs and two concert tickets, even though my birthday was 8 months later. A very generous guy!

My mother bought me 'Sign O' The Times' on cassette back in 1987. She later bought me '1999' on CD - I think it was Christmas 1991. That was a pretty cool Christmas because she also bought me the Andy Warhol Diaries and John Waters' 'Female Trouble' on VHS.

But during one of them RaspberryWoman was talking over "The Beautful Ones" totally ruining it for me OK...how many times do I have to be reminded of this? I was trying to talk to a guy who was like almost 7 feet tall so I had to scream up to him. -Dean is the cheese to my macaroni-

A friend bought me 'The Very Best Of Prince' on my birthday, the year it came out. I was a bit underwhelmed when I unwrapped it, but later realised that it saved me having to buy it myself - so it was cool, I guess. Your mother gave you Female Trouble??? Did she realize what she was giving you? Or do you just have the hippest mother in the British empire?
