Brandy PRETENDED to be married!

Brandy's 'Ex-Husband' Says They Were Never Really Married

http://www.mtv.com/news/a...lines=true

Three years after he allegedly wed Brandy in secret, the father of the R&B singer's daughter is claiming the two were never really married.

In interviews earlier this week with New York radio stations WBLS-FM and WQHT-FM, Robert Smith insisted that he and the 24-year-old Brandy, who released her fourth album, Afrodisiac, on June 29, never legally wed. Rather, the couple just portrayed the notion of nuptials to preserve Brandy's image.

And just as Brandy had claimed that she wasn't in love with Smith when the couple split up last year (see "Looking Back, Brandy Says End of Marriage Wasn't Painful"), Smith said he never loved Brandy in a romantic way, but that he continues to love her as a friend.

In early 2002, at the same time Brandy announced she was pregnant, she broke the news that she and Smith had gotten married in the summer of 2001. Before he began his relationship with Brandy, Smith was involved with another woman, a film producer, and initially had sustained relationships with both women. When Brandy became pregnant, the decision was made to tell people they were married.

Brandy gave birth to daughter Sy'rai in June 2002, as documented in the MTV program "Diary Presents: Brandy — Special Delivery," and the couple parted ways a year later. Smith has since gotten back with the film producer, and they are expecting a child in two months.

Brandy, in a statement issued by her publicist, claimed she was "hurt and shocked" by Smith's revelations. Instead of a legally recognized marriage, she claims they had a "spiritual union and a true commitment to each other."

"We still share a common bond through our daughter, Sy'rai," the statement continued. "He is not thinking about her, me, or what we had together. He is trying to destroy my reputation while using me and our daughter to get publicity and radio airplay for his artists. I am stunned that he is being so dirty about it."

Smith, a music producer, said he appeared on the radio stations to introduce Amanda, a new artist signed to his Big Bert Entertainment imprint who is dropping the single "Please Mister" in August.

Following Brandy's statement, Smith issued one of his own. "My comments were in no way made to take away any responsibility from Sy'rai emotionally or financially," it read. "And in no way am I an irresponsible father. ... I have recently been granted joint custody of Sy'rai. When breaking off relationships it's always difficult, and I prefer not to air our dirty laundry through the media. I was just stating the truth. Brandy and I have many things to work out over a long period of time, [and] will hopefully [head] in a more positive direction."

I talked to soo many people who said that they were surprised when Brandy and her husband split, because they "looked soo happy and in love on that MTV documentary". I always ask those people, "What the hell were you watching?" eek The documentery that I saw with Brandy having her baby didn't look anything like that to me. Her "husband" was always on his cell phone and seemed to always be ignoring her. I wasn't surprised that they did split and I'm not surprised to hear that they weren't even married. The only reason I thought that they got married in the first place, after watching that documentary, was because her parents made them do it for the baby. I remember when her mother wouldn't let her date Wanya from Boyz II Men, because he was too old for her or something like that. Hopefully now she's not under her parent's rule like she used to be.

See this kind of tarnishes my image of Brandy. Now, I never considered her to be the pinnacle of wholesomeness, but with this development, she's sinking to a new low. Couldn't a multi-million dollar popstar like her use birth control? Goodness.

I heard about this before I went to bed last night and I was shocked. Why would she feel the need to lie just for the sake of her image? Honesty is the best policy and I don't think she would have lost points with the general public if she had let people know that she was having a child out of wedlock. She could have been a role model for single parents if she was so "role-model" minded. In the end, I hope that Sy'rai doesn't get hurt in the end. She's more important than all the mess taking place.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I always compared Britney Spears to Brandy, because they both have those demanding stage moms and they both tried to portray a wholesome image even though it was a crock of doo-doo. The only difference between the two is their different races and Brandy can actually sing. Brandy was just itching to get away from her parent's stronghold, so she got pregnant and married, which is basically what will most likely happen in Britney's case.

Its simple!

Fucked up women are 2 kinds, some get married 4 "showwoman ship" and other do just 4 the sake of being in a "relationship". Both get hurt and if there're children along the way then they're the ones who mostly get the damages.

That just shows to you how much growing up she has to catch.

Not surprised, but I have to say, someone told me that they really were not married and I didn't believe that. I believe it was last summer. Anyway, on the Special Delivery show, Brandy seemed very bossy to Bert...who happens to be a very nice guy. I knew it wouldn't last when she told him not to laugh at something that was actually funny! She's a trip

Smooches;)

Why is she worrying about what he's saying about their alleged marriage when she should be worrying about her alleged singing voice? Not my favorite singer, and she's always struck me as kinda nasty (as in mean).

Her mom's the "meany." I always thought she was the nice one. Lots of people 'round my way have hated her from day one. Black girls in L.A. despise her for the most part. I remember one time I thought I was giving a girl a compliment by saying her new braids looked liked Brandy's and she torched me, "No. I don't look like that b*tch."

Dee-amn.
