Can we talk Natalie for a minute?

Cole that is!

Even though when she first came out a lot of people hailed her as "The Next Aretha," I think this woman definitely held her own. Especially with the songwriting skills/production of Marvin Yancy and Chuck Jackson who, IMO, personified true "Gosposoul." clappingclappingclappingclappingclappingclappingclappingclapping

Hmm,,did Monte get in yo head with that thread, Tccd? lol hmmm batting eyes

I like her personality, dig her acting alot but I tried to like her as a vocalist. Its just everytime I hear her, I hear a MAJOR Aretha Franklin rip-off.

But I do like the song "Joey" music

Check the song "I Got Love On My Mind" esp when she wails at the end.

But she does have a sense of individuality when it comes to Jazz. Her "Ask A Woman Who Knows" is a tight album.

Yeah, wasn't one of those Marvin Yancy/Chuck Jackson songs written for ReRe back in the day, but she declined it? confuse

In her autographical book, she says MOST of Marvin Yancy's tunes were writtne with Reefa in mind but passed 'em to her when they couldn't reach Aunt ReRe.

But yeah, she voiced her concern about the obevious ReRe similarity in those songs.

I *never* liked her wailing shake--just seemed to take her ridiculously out of her range . . .but I see what you mean 'bout the 'Retha comparison.

Does "Ask A Woman. . " have the "Tell Me All About It Song"? I love that song--I've played it with a band I used to be with.

Oh, I'd rather talk about *this* Natalie....

Cole's screeching has always gotten on my nerves. There was one song in the 1980s, during her pop/Janet-ish phase that I dug. Aside from that, can't stand her.

Love Old King Cole, though. He was the bomb. music

Dang! lol Was it anything like Thelma Houston's Shanice-ish phase? razz

I don't have any Natalie Cole in my record collection, maybe a track on a compilation, but that's it. I know I have favorite song from her 70s stuff, but I can't remember it. I do like the house mix of "Pink Cadillac." dancing jig

During the '70s these are the tunes I remember by her.

I've Got Love on My Mind
Sophisticated Lady
Be Thankful
Annie Mae
I'm Catching Hell
La Costa
Our Love
Party Lights

After that she went under the radar for me until Unforgettable.

Natalie Cole is one of my favorite female artists.I've been a fan of hers since the 70s.She not only possesses one of the finest voices in pop music, but she seems like a genuinely nice lady too...classy,down-to-earth and VERY sexy too.My favorite songs by her...

"Inseparable" (1975)
"I Can't Say No" (1975)

"Mr.Melody" (1976)
"Good Morning Heartache" (1976)
"I've Got Love On My Mind" (1977)
"I'm Catching Hell (Living All Alone)" (1977)

"Our Love" (1978)
"La Costa" (1978)
"Party Lights" (1979)

These days, she's mostly doing jazz music, which is fine, but I can't wait until she decides to do another pop/R&B album. She also recorded two wonderful Christmas albums, which I start listening to every year about this time.

I was listening to Natalie's Greatest Hits today, and when I got to the song "Our Love",it suddenly dawned on me that Natalie may have been one of the first ladies to do a rap...lol...near the end of the song, when Natalie says "Bring it down...just a little",she then proceeds to do a little rap, rhyming lines such as...

Cause i've got love on my mind
Love is always right on time
Love is you,love is me
Love is just a little baby
