look what i just ordered !!!

The music scene of the 1970s was enriched by the sweet sounds of soul, with an incredible array of talented artists making the crossover into the mainstream thanks to some classic songs. Fortunately many of the great soul performers were extensively captured on camera, and this release represents some of the best live acts of the decade. An extensive trawl of the Sony archives has turned up some incredible gems, including Patti LaBelle storming her way through "Lady Marmalade;" An earth shaking rendition of "Disco Inferno" by Earl Young's Trammps; The laidback, reggae-tinged sounds of "Rock Your Baby" by George McRae; The inspirational "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by McFadden and Whitehead, and many others. For a real taste of the seventies soul scene, look no further than SUPERSTAR OF SEVENTIES SOUL LIVE.

well my dvd just arrived today and i was actually late for work because i started watching it. the sound comes in stereo or dolbly 5.1 surround, and the picture is crisp. it is indeed the show that aired on pbs last year, minus all those annoying but required pledge interruptions. bonus features include two extra songs which i don't think were in the televised version--cowboys to girls by the intruders and if i could turn back the hands of time by tyrone davis; also behind the scenes interviews with a few of the acts, including mcfadden and whitehead...this show was taped just 6 months before john whitehead's murder last may, so it's kinda sad to think about

but for $14.89 at CD Universe, it's a great show to have if you like old school soul. smile

There's also a boxset of the same name out with 60 songs on 3 discs.

Here's a picture of the boxset:

I don't own it but I think this one is better:
