herb alpert and janet jackson-diamonds

had one of the vh1 channels on tonight and this video came on and i saw jerome and was like oh, prince related video and it turned out to be this.

i never heard it back then and it was released in the mist of control and the lyrics were very much in the vein of that album

Love it, even more than some of the singles that came from Control.

Did you know that this song was originally entitled "Sausage"? Herb Alpert asked Terry Lewis to change the title; Terry also came up with different lyrics and the song became "Diamonds." Herb says "Janet added a lot to this cut and it was fun working with her. She is a lovely lady and a great artist."

My former English teacher once asked us :" Who used to sing Diamonds Are A Girl´s Best Friend ?" and I said :"Janet, of course..."

Little did I know that Norma Jean AKA Marilyn Monroe made this her own decades ago....but he didn´t know about Janet either.

Yes, this was a huge hit back in the 80s. If you didn't hear it back then you must not have listened to the radio.

Thanks to this thread, I actually played this tune all afternoon.

I love the Cool Summer and album versions, but the Ultimix (with the Marilyn Monroe soundbites) grew on me today.

So Funny!. That one will creep up on me at the most inopportune time.

Are the original lyrics anywhere to be found? Can't even imagine.

i think she was fat at the time the video was done and didn't appear in it. I swear whoever that is in the video, it is not janet. it is a somewhat convincing lookalike.

Could you imagine the controversy (in a comedic sense) Herb & Janet would have generated IF the lyrics would have stay?!? lol

All I remember from the video is the shadow of someone who was supposed to be Janet dancing behind a curtain and then when the curtains parted, this mini-me Janet came out and started dancing.

oooooh yeah!!!! lol. i remember that now.
there was also a shot of someone where everything the screen was totally dark except for their shadowy face. the face was "made up" like janet but it was a maaaaan, baby. whoever that was looked like a female impersonator.they had mannish features and bad teeth. janet's teeth are practically perfect.
