"Get Together" next single from "COAD"

from billboard:

SORRY GET TOGETHER

Hello Keith,

After the inexplicable disappointment of Madonna's "Sorry" not being the huge hit in the United States that it's been in Europe, fan sites have been filled with conflicting reports and subsequent debates over what will (or should) be the next single release from "Confessions on a Dance Floor."

So will the next single be "Get Together" or "Jump?"

Thanks,

Scott English
New York

Hi Scott,

Ready?

The third single from "Confessions on a Dance Floor" will be (drumroll please)... "Get Together."

I was surprised. Even though I had heard Internet rumblings that "Get Together" would be the third single, I thought for sure that the very catchy "Jump" would have been next in line.

Interestingly, the third best-selling digital song from "Confessions" is "Get Together," with 20,000 downloads in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Jump" stands at 9,000 -- the fourth most downloaded song from the album. (The best-sellers? "Hung Up" and "Sorry," of course.)

"Confessions on a Dancefloor," which became Madonna's sixth No. 1 album upon its debut last fall, has sold 1.4 million in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's more than double what her last set, "American Life," has sold to date (665,000).

The album's first single, "Hung Up," hit No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. That gave Madonna her 36th top 10 hit, tying her with Elvis Presley as the artists with the most top 10 hits in the rock era.

Follow-up single "Sorry" only managed a No. 58 peak on the Hot 100, but did spend two weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, where Madonna is in the undisputed champ. She's had 35 No. 1s on the Club Play chart, more than any other artist. (Janet Jackson's in a distant second place, with 17.)

Madonna's "Confessions Tour" begins May 21 at the Forum in Los Angeles. It makes its way across the country through the end of July, then she heads to Europe. First up though, Madonna will play the Coachella Valley Music Festival on April 30.

i didn't know sorry was not a hit here. i've heard it everywhere! as for choosing get together...it seems odd they would choose a song that's already selling well on itunes. if they released jump i would bet the song would see an increase in download sales.

it doesn't matter, both songs are great! shit, that whole record is slammin'! can't wait for the tour!!!

MADONNA SONG OF THE DAY: "Get Together" music

(There's too much confusion)
(It's all an illusion)
(there's too much confusion)

Down,down,down in your heart
find,find,find the secret
Turn,turn,turn your head around
baby we can do it
we can do it alright

Do you believe in love at first sight?
it's an illusion,I don't care
Do you believe I can make you feel better?
too much confusion, come on over here

(chorus)
Can we get together?
I really, really wanna be with you
Come on check it out with me
I hope you,I hope you feel the same way too

I searched,I searched,I searched my whole life
to find,find,find the secret
but all I did was open up my eyes
baby we can do it
we can do it alright

Do you believe that we can change the future?
Do you believe I can make you feel better?

(chorus)
Can we get together?
I really, really wanna be with you
Come on check it out with me
I hope you,I hope you feel the same way too

Can we get together?
I really, really wanna be with you
Come on check it out with me
I hope you,I hope you feel the same way too

It's all an illusion
there's too much confusion
I'll make you feel better
if it's bitter at the start
then it's sweeter in the end

Do you believe in love at first sight?
It's an illusion,I don't care
Do you believe I can make you feel better?
too much confusion, come on over here

chorus

I was initially really disappointed by this news, but now i think its great. Jump is by far the catchiest song on the album, and i love it, but Get Together has perhaps a more enduring appeal. Its a brilliant song with loads of hooks, and that bit where the music explodes about two thirds of the way through, has brilliant potential for the video.

My only hope is that they see sense and release Jump afterwards. Ray Of Light sold 15 million from having 5 single releases (and 5 videos), and i think Confessions has at least the potential to ourtsell Musics 10m, provided it gets at least 4 single releases. Jump would still make a brilliant single, perhaps with a live video from the tour, in support of the tour. I think Jump could be a really cool summer song too.

that's my favorite part of the song headbang that part is orgasmic!

Without question,"Get Together" is clearly the fan favorite. If Warners had not chosen it as a single, the fans probably would have started an on-line petition, lol.I wonder why they don't just release "Get Together" and "Jump" as a double-A side single.Use live footage from the tour as a video for "Get Together" and release a kickass maxi-single with remixes for both songs.

Sorry only peaked at #58 on the Hot 100, which i can't say is horrible considering she got zilch airplay.

Have any of you guys created your own "Deluxe Edition" of COADF? I'm thinking that the two bonus tracks could be used, and a few of the best remixes, and the CD could look something like this:

MADONNA 'CONFESSIONS ON A DANCEFLOOR' Deluxe Edition

"Hung Up"
"Get Together"
"Sorry"
"Super Pop"
"Future Lovers"
"I Love New York"
"Let It Will Be"
"Forbidden Love"
"Jump"
"How High"
"Isaac"
"Push"
"Fighting Spirit"
"Like It Or Not"
"Sorry" (Pet Shop Boys Maxi Mix)
"Sorry" (Green Velvet Remix)
"Let It Will Be" (Paper Faces Vocal Edit)
"Get Together" (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)
"I Love New York" (Thin White Duke Mix)
"Hung Up" (SDP's Extended Vocal)

hmmm

Now I can actually purchase something from this era lol This is the only song from the album that I actually like.

The Jacques Lu Cont Mix is absolutely terrible, though. Let's hope the other remixes we get are actually good.

The dance station on XM satellite radio has been playing Get Together regularly for about a month now, which tipped me off to the next single . Its currently #21 on their playlist.

Good choice , but as far as it being a hit in the states I dont see it happening. If Sorry , (IMO the best song on the album , very radio friendly) cant make it any higher than #58 , i dont hold much hope for any other singles from Confessions. It will of course be huge in Europe and hit #1 on the US Dance charts like she always does.

the US music landscape is pretty dismal. there is a ton of good music out there but unless you're into some kind of scene, you really don't know its there. i guess that's good for those who like to brag about unknown bands they love but i'd much rather see good musicians/bands get credit.

Even if the song isn't a hit, it's a great choice for a single. Plus it's one of the best songs on the CD, kinda like a 1,2 punch after Hung Up. Madonna knows what time it is and I'll never knock her for her business sense. Never.

Apparently..and almost unfortuneately it is rumored to be the last single off of the album. It's such a shame, as the album is packed with songs that could easily be singles. Though I have to say that 3 singles is the trend since Music...as ROL had 5. But I seriously think that was because ROL was a very strong single (as the 2nd single) and Power of Goodbye did really well.

I do hope they change this and 2 more get released. I was shocked Sorry did not do as well as Hung up...it's certainly a better song I think.

I do have to add...I think the reason Get Together did so well, is because it's number 2 on the album and perhaps folks previewed it first and liked it...hence why it did better than Jump. Had Get together been a ballad...probably FUture Lovers would have been the next choice...just because it is next in line on the album.

It is a fan favorite. I think the double A side was scratched because they "might" release Jump. I Love NY is slated as the B-side. Both of these songs have been given the remix treatment already on the Remix version of COFD

HU only made #7 because of downloads. The album was not available when it charted, so single downloads were fueling its chart rise. The album has been out for months and people have been purchasing "Sorry" off iTunes for months, too, so there was no big download rush when the single was released. Anyone who wanted it already had it. I'm afraid downloads will only help an artist now on a first single. As you can purchase songs individually on iTunes, there is no such thing as a commercial release date for a single, anymore, and there will be no sales boom to match it once a parent album is released and downloaders decide which songs THEY would like as singles.

ILNY is the b-side, and GT is the *final* single from the album, due to lack to time to promote any others (due to touring).

I think they're mostly doing it right in terms of picking singles. My favorites from the album are...

1. Get Together
2. Jump
3. Hung Up
4. Sorry

I hope "Jump" comes out too. They should have the free runners in the video.
