You have NO idea how much I love this album. nod

Years ago, someone played me the original version of "Credit in the Straight World" and I've been trying to remember who did it ever since...I even turned up no luck when I tried Googling it...the original is great, I'd love to find it again...

I'd love to hear that. Next to Doll Parts, it's my favorite track on there.

This would be my alternate universe list. lol I love just about all these albums, though I confess I'm more of an "Apocalypse 91: The Enemy Strikes Black" fan. smile

I'm having the same problem after I made my list. I'm noticing that I didn't include Mary and Supa Dupa Fly.

The 90's is when I cut my teeth musically and they hold a very special place in my heart.

I could easily fill a Top 100 list with what I consider 4 or 5 star albums.

Me too! lol The 90s were great nod

5. Annie Lennox- Diva
6. Björk- Homogenic
7. Depeche Mode- Violator

it's weird...i like all of bjork's albums a whole lot (with the possible exception of her last two, but even 'medulla' is slllowwwly growing on me), but it's only been in the last year or two that i've REALLY bonded with "homogenic". i think it was reading about how bjork wanted to create "volcanic pop" or "icelandic rock" as a new personal genre with this album, and i can really hear her creating her own little private musical revolution in her head with this album. it's so fierce and confident. i still wonder if i like 'vespertine' a little more, but i've really come to love 'homogenic' in ways i never appreciated before. nod

the 90s kick this decade's ass so far for music. is that my age talking or has music, by and large, been really lackluster so far this decade?

I think "Homogenic" is really suitable as a title. With "Debut" and "Post", she was trying on all different kinds of pop, dance and electronic styles. With the "Post" singles, she exploded into every direction imaginable. She's said herself that she usually reacts against what she's just created and tries to do something totally new. And I feel like with "Homogenic", she really tried to homogenize her sound into something uniform, distinct and all her own. She abandoned her original idea of having it be strictly beats in one speaker, strings in another and voice in the middle, but the results are pretty close. I only wish that the video version of "Alarm Call" would've been included with it's harder beats and string samples. It would've fit much better with the overall sound. And I think ever since, she's tried to make her albums very consistent and do one thing to the max instead of covering several. Love it!

Perhaps my aversion to the 90s was just that I completely didn't identify with the zeitgeist of the time and being a teenager without a computer, didn't explore things beyond the mainstream. I love the 00s way more than the 90s, but probably because I dig a lot deeper than I did back then. Much of the music I love from this decade doesn't get much media exposure.

i think discovering music without the help of a computer HELPED me appreciate music more, really. before having forums like this or rate your music or whatever, i kinda had to rely on my own imagination and other people's face-to-face opinions on music, and there was a lot less cacophany involved in taking in new music. i'd have to hunt down reviews of new albums in magazines, etc. i think there are plusses of listening to music and discovering new stuff post-internet, don't get me wrong, but i also really enjoyed the risk of getting a new album and not knowing what it would be like because it leaked online or someone reviewed an advance copy, etc. - ya know?

I understand that too, but I wasn't nearly the fan of music in general back then as I was now, so I've utilized all resources more during this decade.

And aside from how you felt then, what's the problem now Mr. Lou Reed?
