Raheem DeVaughn: The Love Experience

Has anybody ever heard of this album? I heard this cat is a true artist and he does all sorts of music, particularly R&B and Jazz. I went on his website to listen to some samples and it sounds pretty good. This album was released last year and I can't believe I passed it up! Has anyone heard this album?

yeah this album is very underrated....it's been in my cd changer for months since I discovered it myself earlier this year, I can't seem to not listen to this album....still wondering what happened to the promotion for this guy hmmm

This is one of best soul albums out now, it's crazy, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown get praise, but this guy doesn't???

I know, I know, its just the way it is in the business.

My top 3 faves:

"Guess Who Loves You More"
"You"
"Believe"

I just bought it from Barnes and Noble a few days ago. While I scanned it to listen to it, I read a review by AMG that only gave him 3 stars. Why? He has a sweet, gentle and irresistible voice. What a beautiful album. Finally someone writes a complete album dedicated to love. I love this album very much.

I brought the album yesterday, but I haven't even listened to it yet. I'll probably give this a spin tonight.

I've had the album for about 6 months now and it's cool but his poetry interludes seem forced. The songs are decent but I just wasn't feeling him. A better buy is Donnie's "The Colored Section" but it may be too political for some folk.

Yeah, I really wasn't feeling Donnie's debut either. The political messages weren't really complex, but they also weren't clicking with me.

I tried listening to Donnie too, but I wasn't feeling him either. Though his lyrics are empowering, they are also a reminder that prejudice still exists. And that is commendable because he is addressing what other artists don't dare to. Personally, lyrics like these make feel angstsy and angry, but my reaction has to do with where am I right now.

Yeah, it was a very nice album to listen to. My favorite tracks on there were "Guess Who Loves You More" and "Believe."

I personally think not that many people were really checking for him because of the close similarity he has to D'Angelo.

Somehow through following links on various music sites I came across Raheem's name last year and decided to check out his cd. It was by far my absolute favorite cd of 2005. Like a previous poster said, he has a pleasant, gentle voice which adds to the appeal of his songs. The songs are all positive love songs, not the cheating/playa type of r&b songs that's typical these days. It was a really refreshing album to hear.

Well, I've been listening to this album since Monday and I am still floored! I can't believe I passed this by last year because this cat has skills. Mostly everything on this album was about love and I was feeling every track. My favorite track on here is You.

IN MY OPINION, when he sings in his falsetto (and natural full voice for that matter), he sounds similar to D'Angelo. Also, some of his runs and riffs mimic D's. Not to mention, they've all got that Maryland/D.C./Virginia accent in their voices.

Listened to it. More neo-soul cookie-cutter bullshit. Sounds like a million other artists. Waste of time, when will someone do something CREATIVE with this genre for a change!

And I heard the Donnie too: it's better than this, but still boring as shit.

Raheem's album isnt really a neo-soul album; it mostly R&B.

I love the album, its much better and more original most other R&B albums of its (recent) time.

BTW, there's a song called "Wont Be Long (Closer)" on the import version of the album. Its very hard to come across in good quality, so if any UK/European peeps with this album with this song on it, would you be nice enough to hook a brother up? biggrin
