Root Boy Slim & the Sex Change Band

The past few days, I've been all about Root Boy Slim.

I don't know what his whole deal is, other than he was gross and depraved and a little scary, and he's been dead since 1993.

The music is kinda New Orleans party music-ish, only with a bit of punk and soul thrown in. Now take that description and add a few bottles of jagermeister and a few doses of hard drugs. Et voila: Root Boy Slim!

I first discovered him years ago, performing with the Sex Change Band (freakin BRILLIANT band name, by the way) on a videocassette called "Mr. Mike's Mondo Video", which was a failed television pilot by ex-SNL writer Mike O'Donoghue (one of my top tier writing heroes)...it was too weird for TV, so they sold it as a video.

ANYway, Root Boy Slim performed on the show, and he was just this crazy, drug-addled fat man in red satin overalls and Elton John novelty glasses that spelled out ROOT...I think he was wearing a cape, too lol and he was all sweaty and gross and he had a drag queen back up singer. I just thought the whole thing was too cool. I flipped out when I stumbled across one of his albums this week, but I'm still searching for their signature song, "Boogie Till You Puke". lol

Anyone else ever heard of these sickos before? I love them!
