The Isley Brothers used to be some hard jammin' motherfuckers. It just trips me out how so many of these youngsters think they are strictly balladeers. The Isleys used to straight get off!

"Footsteps in the Dark" is a ballad, not an uptempo song.

I thought that song demonstrated the beginning of the 3+3 era's decline. That was the beginning of the three albums -- "Grand Slam," "Inside You" and "The Real Deal" -- where The Isley Brothers' brand of music sound dated.

Don't Hold Back Your Love is a classic from that album.

That's a good one but my favorite from that album is "Don't Let Up".

"Footsteps in the Dark" is a ballad, not an uptempo song.

I was thinking it's close enough to midtempo to warrant a mention. I guess it is more of a ballad, though.

I loved the way they effortlessly mixed Rock and Funk, Pop, Folk, and Soul -That combination of Ron's Vocals and Ernie's guitar, on acoustic as well as electric:

It's Your Thang

Ohio/Machine Gun

That Lady

Lay Lady Lay

Hope You Feel Better Love

Who Loves You Better

Brother, Brother, Brother

Living In The Life

Take Me To The Next Phase

Work To Do

Midnight Sky

Live It Up

Voyage To Atlantis

Summer Breeze

Brown Eyed Girl

Rockin' With Fire

Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight

Hello It's Me

An essential collection for Isley fans, because (I believe) it's the only domestic Isley Brothers CD with Coolin' Me Out.

You may be right, because I bought an imported version of "Showdown," and I don't believe that album is readily available in the United States.

It's a shame that 1978's "Showdown" has not been issued, since it was arguably the last great album released by the 3+3 version of The Isley Brothers. Another that I am surprised has never been reissued is 1980's "Go All the Way."
