I definitely wish I could've seen this show. Jeff and Buddy Guy are the two living older generation guitar heroes I most want to see. Your comparison to Eddie Van Halen really mirrors one of my own prejudices, ie my distaste for this idea that the quality of a musician is directly proportional to how fast he can wank. A lot of kids who are heavily into shred guitar seem to completely lack appreciation for other aspects of guitar playing other than sweep-picked, 128th note, EbM9 scale runs all over the place. What makes Jeff, and certain other players like Steve Hackett (another personal favorite of mine), so great is that they have incredible chops AS WELL as taste, lyricism, melodicism etc.. Eddie Van, Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai etc. etc, are all well and good but there isn't really a "cause we've ended now as lovers" or a "firth of fifth" or a Maggot Brain in their catalogues.

I hear ya, but Jeff Beck seems like the technical guitar master of his day (as was Jimi) just like those other guys are for their generations (speaking only of their playing, now. Eddie's never written a Bold As Love or Angel).

Also I think Vai is very musical, but a lot of people don't hear that.

Can you please tell us why exactly he's your second favorite 60's guitarist?

No, no...what I mean is, why is he your second favorite as opposed to your third or fourth favorite? lol I mean...what specifically about him or his guitar playing do you like so much?

Thanks for this t/A, I wanted to go when he came through Detroit but my friends were like "$60 a ticket?, We're out".

Slave,

Do be afraid to go to a show alone.

Both nights! WOW! Good deal, but no way I could have done an $80 show. Mule's next Tues (10/10). Can't wait to see your reaction.

I missed a Beck show a few years back due to exams. My regret's much more painful now for having read this. smile Hopefully the opportunity will rear its head again.

Thanks as always for taking the time to create such a thorough write-up. This was really a pleasure to read.
