Oh stop it lol We know you were at the discos in 1976,getting your groove on to this song and then waking up the next morning with your own "love hangover"

lol

Au contraire mon frere. biggrin

Discos were cutting me out of work.
Many clubs that used to hire live music switched to DJs.
The upper end spots did both.

Plus you know I don't get along with Miss DR. barf
I feel about her (outside of The Supremes) the way vainandy feels about Whitney Houston.

Well, not that bad. lol

Now how can you like the Supremes stuff but not her solo material? It's the same woman singing the songs! lol Is it that you simply prefer her singing with two other girls?

Yeah, this is one of those times where I can't give you a rational/logical explanation. confused

It's a dislike that's more of a gut-level reaction...

...A certain internal meter goes off-scale. biggrin

I'm sure the difference in material (Supremes vs Solo) has a lot to do with it.

Disco was my first love but I can definately imagine how you as a club musician during that era must have felt. It's definately easier for a club owner to just hire a DJ to spin records on a built in sound sytem than to hire a band to come in, unlock the club early and lock it up late for loading/unloading of instruments, lighting, and sound checks.

Exactly.

During that time period, I was living/working relatively close to your neck of the woods in south Georgia/north Florida.
(that's where I learned about acts like The Controllers, Bobby Rush, Millie Jackson, Syl Johnson, Otis Clay, etc)

Some of the groups I was in had to incorporate some disco material (Love Hangover being one of the many tunes. sick ) to work along with the Soul/R&B/Funk/Jazz we'd normally play.

Btw, there's a newly released CD consisting of local Funk bands of the area that i'm gonna do a post on later.

"Love Hangover" is my favorite Diana Ross song headbang I love the way it starts off as a steamy ballad, then quicky turns into a relentless disco jam. This song was THE JAM back in the summer of '76!! A dance music classic!

I agree with this. Although it's a DIRECT bite off of Soul's and my girl Donna's "Love To Love You Baby", it bangs nevertheless.

You know what,I love Donna but I think "Love Hangover" is a better song than "Love To Love You Baby",which is too slow for me lol

I was born some eight years before "Love Hangover" was a released single, and it is a good song. I personally would like more if it wasn't for the uptempo part --

See, that's where I am-- I love the first part-- Would've made a classic ballad ---check out that break for the string section...

But I ain't got much time for the second half-- even back in the day...I just thought that part was just formula disco, and went on Way too long--anyway, that's my take on it....

wow,I love the second part lol it's hypnotic....the type of groove that could put you in a dance frenzy, lol.I don't know who's playing the bass, but he's kicking ass headbang

I really like "Love to Love You Baby," but I agree. I think "Love Hangover" is inspired. It would've been so easy to ride the groove of the first part through the whole song (as Monica later proved), but the uptempo part takes an already great song to another level. dancing jig

The Controllers

I haven't heard them since probably around 1980. They had a jam I love called "Let Me Entertain You".....

Let me entertain you
Let me fix dinner for two

I can't find that song anywhere.
