Snoop Dogg new single

Hi all,

Well it sounds new to me:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qSS_DY_z-Dc

His old school references are obvious in the sounds and his video, it makes me think a bit of Roger Troutman and the delightful arrogance of Rick James and Prince. I am not sure if I like this tune yet... but the melody is kind of addictive, tell me what you think. Your musical output is always appreciated biggrin

Reminds me a bit of Kleeer's Intimate Connection.

Blanche: Oh, I do love the rain so! It reminds me of my first kiss.
Dorothy: Awww, your first kiss was in the rain...
Blanche: No, it was in the shower.

I checked out Keer's track and you are right the musical background is very similar to Snoop's new one. I did not know this track from Keer... Thanks for sharing biggrin

Sounds like he's trying to do the Akon/T-Pain thing.

Since when did Snoop start singing?

I like the "When Doves Cry" video reference.

That took me back to the old days!

You know the song is really called "Sexual Eruption", right? This is the cleaned-up version.
I like Snoop. He loves funk and embraces the music he was raised up on. I remember when he had that show on Mtv - he had a band. What rapper actually cares about having a band these days. Yeah, Jay-Z has done it but they are always there to make him look "bigger". Snoop is the one rapper that uses a band like he's part of it rather than as a prop. Plus, dude doesn't take himself too seriously. He can make fun of himself and not have to scour the internet threatening sites that have his pictures and videos posted...hmmm

The concept of the video is me in Prince/Michael Jackson mode...

He discusses the song Sexual Eruption and the album in the above clips. The album releases in March, Ego Trippin'

nod I agree with you totally BK. His attempt at Old School Ohio Funk with a touch of Roger Troutmen syns was classic. This kind of reminded me of an episode of Soul Train during the 80's when Breakin was king. The only thing that's missing is a Soul Train line with wave and moonwalk moves.

Okay, I can't front; the live version is hot!

The bass player is goin' off! I'm liking this song the more I hear it. Snoop may have a hit on his hands with this one.

Interesting to see Snoop showing off his instrumental side on the Ohio Funk tip.

Also, the editors let the word "f*ck" slip in this performance. Its during Snoop's rap when he says "go to the crib and exchange some f*ck faces" I caught it the second time I saw it. Censors are slippin'. lol

I'm wondering is there anyone who doesn't like this song? Usually you have at least one dissenting voice. Can it be orgers have finally found something we universally agree on?

The video is semi-cool, the song is neutral

... and by neutral I mean boring. It's just a contemporary sounding shit hop song (damn andy, that's catchy lol) with a 'kind of cool' video.
Oh and, if anyone compares Snoop to T-Pain again, for using the Talk Box (which T-Pain doesn't even use), I'll chop his balls off lol
