Gang of Four - Entertainment!

The funkiest album by a post-punk band.

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings & Food

The funkiest art-damaged New Wave band. I would go with Remain in Light but that one ain't funky enough.

Isley Brothers - 3+3

Need I say more???

The Higsons - It's a Wonderful Life

The best white punk/funk band you've never heard of.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Freaky Styley & BloodSugarSexMagik

Their two best masterpieces, hands down. And their greatest examples of how white guys can get nasty too.

Rufus - Rufusized

One of the coolest funk records of the '70s

Ohio Players - Honey

Needs no introduction. And it's not just because of the album covers either, perv. lol
NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Rick James - Street Songs

Sweat Band

Cameo - We All Know Who We Are / Secret Omen

those are sum off the head good 1's...I may b SIR NOZE but these ones made me dance!

Not to start another "what is soul" type discussion but I don't see 1999 as a funk song at all. When I think funk, I think early Commodores stuff like "Machine Gun" or "Slippery When It's Wet" and Herbie Hancock's "Man-Child" album. A good funk song will have a distinctive bassline which 1999 does not. 1999 is more a pop/new wave song thank anything else.

I was quite surprised too, I would never have thought of 1999 as a straight funk workout either, although it's got a touch of funk.

My favorite funk acts would be something like this:
1. Parliament/ Funkadelic
2. Zapp (Roger Troutman)
3. Cameo
4. Prince/ The Time
5. Bootsy Collins
6. James Brown

Funk on, brothers, funk on!
headbang
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Not to correct you but Sly didn't influence Hendrix, they were both making music at the same time. Hendrix was blues influenced, especially by Muddy Waters.

Now if you said what did Acid influence, then we could throw Sly & Hendrix in the same boat.

Herbie Hancock

It's all love bro.

But,remember: Just because U come up 'Round the same time...
Doesn't mean you can't or WILL NOT be influenced by your Peers !

Check band of Gypyies : "We Gotta live together"
( Jimi's openly givin' props to Sly )
by runnin'down Sly's "Sing-a-Simple Song"

He must´ve loved the sound tho´ since he invited
Greg Errico & Larry Graham 2 play with him.
At that time the Family Stone had an agreement with Sly
not 2 play with anybody else but him.
