Just around the corner… Finally, THE VAULT is coming!

Printing of THE VAULT will begin next week and the book should be ready to ship on the week of 7 June 2004. Unfortunately, we have had 14 days' delay due to an Adobe software bug in InDesign 2.0.2 under Mac OS X 10.3.3 when using professional OpenType fonts. This caused us to reformat the complete book at last minute, using different typefaces than originally planned. We are truly sorry for this. However, the material is now in the hands of the printer's office and we foresee no more delays. We hope the book, which "clocks in" at a hefty 720 pages, will be worth the wait. You can check some sample pages at http://www.uptown.se/thevault

Will a shipping notification be emailed to people who have pre-ordered the book?

That damn Adobe. Their Mac support has sucked the last couple of years. It better get better if they hope InDesign will compete with Quark....

Unfortunately, InDesign will never overcome Quark's foothold in the market. Quark's UI sucks donkey balls, but very few design houses and print vendors use InDesign as a primary program.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

This is very true. Color seperation is so much better in Quark. Now if they could make those UI changes in Quark, they'd really have something....

Oh yah, another thing about InDesign: InDesign 1 - InDesign 2 - InDesign 3 have compatibility problems with one another. That's not good.

And I can't open Quark 6 files from Quark 5 - no backwards compatability.

Yep! That sucks also. Maybe the two programs have the same programmers.....

I'm sorry guys bit this is utterly bullshit. InDesign is tottally taking over the market at the moment. Quark have a lot to worry about. We work with the biggest publisging houses all over the world and they are all seriously questionning the necessity to carry on with Quark

In terms of development costs (look at the price of Quark extensions...a complete rip off), Quark is far behind. Even huge companies lik Disney have given up on Quark completely.

Adobe are going to improve their versions a lot more in the following years with more and more great interactivity tools between Photoshop, Illustrator and their other packages and InDesign.

Quark are losing the battle big time. It has always been a very average package anyway. All the designers and graphists I have worked with throughout the years hate it. Look at the crappy options in Quark to deal with graphics for instance !

Moreover you are mentionning bugs with Indesign...like if there were no fucking massive bugs with Quark !!!!!

Quark sucks. I don't see why it is used so much in industry. I can get by just fine with Photoshop and Illustrator.

relax Freaky. The point I make is that I find it ironic that an organisation that is critical of Prince and many aspects of his music and business dealings suffered from their own level of incompetence. As a paying consumer I do not expect to have to help them get their act together, you pay for an item and as such the very least you can expect is that it is accurate!. For the record Uptown is a great mag and they have excelled in getting interviews with some great associated artists over the last few years.

I am hoping that those PDF files are smaller than what's being printed. It was quite hard to read last night. Something tells me that it's gonna be small. Apparently the last book had microscopic print.
