Milan review (late, i no)

I only got back from my trip 2 italy this morning, that's y i'm so late with my review. I didn't read yet any of the other reviews, but i'm sure they have a full set list and what not.
I only saw the Antwerp,Be concert so far, so i'll take it from there

First of all, the positives: The organisation of the queue was great. Sheila E. was there! Maceo was there! Candy was there! The band was really tight, Renato was on fire, so basically a great show (as we've come 2 xpect) HOWEVER

some MAJOR negatives: first of all, i was under the impression that mayb prince had some vocal problems: the previous show was rather short, the soundcheck was very short, he seemed to avoid singing high notes the first part of the concert and his voice could almost not b heard. However, from the piano medley on his vocals were loud and clear, so my best guess is they adjusted things during the break. Mayb it would 've been wiser 2 sing a little more during sound check, so these kinda problems can b fixed earlier on (as they did at the Antwerp show). So y the short soundcheck? When prince introduced Sheila, i was sure we were in 4 a special nite. However, when P started talking 2 the members, this one guy (the same who organised, admitteldly, the cueue very well) felt like he alone was entiteled 2 princes attention, and, even worse, starts claiming that we as members r entiteled 2 some xclusive songs bcause we payed 4 it and what not (he even called prince 'darling'). That may all have been true and funny but it was certainly not the right place or time, cause that's when prince decided soundcheck was over (he only came back 4 a short bass/drums 'duet' with sheila) 'cause they had 2 get dressed, more than 2 hours b4 the start of the concert (!). Dude, they should 've bitch slapped u 4 that, but than again, most around me didn't seem to care that much.

Unfortunately, this 'not caring' was symptomatic 4 the rest of the show. This must 've been the most lousy audience i've seen in any show, anywhere, anyplace. It was heart breaking 2 c how prince had 2 work his ass off, use all the tricks of the book, express sentiments of 'croud appreciation' while there was obviously no reason 4 that, and so on. Even the people in the members section didn't seem 2 give a shit about what was going on, or xpressing any appreciation. Rmmbr how at other concerts the crowd kept singing 'it ain't over' 10 minutes after renato left the stage, and when u wake up the next morning, u'r still singing 'it ain't over'. This time prince almost had 2 begg 4 it, and than mayb half of the stadium sung the line once or twice. The only group of people that went wild were the ones right bhind the member section. To the rest of the audience: BOO-fucking-BOO. U left the man no choice but 2 play greatest hits, cause it felt like half of u were about 2 leave the venue b4 the end of the show. Sheila E was there 4 christsakes, the arrangements of the songs was possibly even better than in antwerp, he was talking about playing manic monday, ... but i blame u 4 making this just a greatest hits show (a really great show, still), and not a memorable concert.

private note 2 the fat lady who looked like drag queen and sounded like a retarded bitch:

when there r 2 hours btween soundcheck and show, the easiest and most confortable way is 2 sit down in an empty spot. It is not cool 2 push people away with u'r 400pounds, install u'rself on top of the ones sitting down and then go on complaining about it. Blieve it or not: it was not me who shoved my head up u'r giant ass (i'm not suicidal), so 2 u and u'r friend (who thinks the 2 and 4 is on the 0.321 and the 2.895): a big flipped off
"It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

This remembers me of Oberhausen, although the mood in the rest of the hall was good. Between the main part and the encores it was more like a dinner party in the members section. Maybe a part of the members have seen too many concerts to get excited. For me this would be the right time to take a break.

Funny, how one can get a totally different impression of things...

My guess is just that Prince was a bit tired and did not want to do a tour de force. He actually enjoyed the crowd, all in all better than Antwerp (where I had the feeling I was the only one dancing in the members area...). Even during the soundcheck I had the impression that he enjoyed chatting with the members. I think that he even commented positively on the italian crowd afterwards in Rotterdam. The whole Pala was very supportive, however there were too many flashing cameras... no security check at all, which is strange considering that Prince does not like that at all.

The concert in my opinion, was very good, but not exceptional (as Antwerp for example was), but it had more to do with Prince's willingness of doing the work than anything else...

It was a nice show I think, Prince was in a good mood and the presence of Sheila made it special.

I think you were not in Milan!!
Prince was happy for the audience response, and he said it to the Rotterdam people on sat. 2.
I can't understand why are you telling so many lies...
you are unfair and you know it.
It's a pity that people like you goes to concerts...

What part is bullshit? that it was a fine concert, but not xtrordinary? that is was mostly greatest hits? that his voice sounded better after the break? that the soundcheck was short? that the audience reaction was rather tame, xcept 4 the people just behind the member's section? that one guy tried 2 get all the attention during sound check? The arrangement of the songs was great, his voice in parts not very, the reaction of the audience not as strong as i would 've xpected... what makes u think i was not in Milan?

I was there, maybe behind you. who knows ?
If you have seen more concerts of Prince, you can compare that one with others. That's good.

I know that most of the people around me didn't understand English. People cannot really understand Prince when he says: "clap your hands somebody..."
I screamed "it ain't over" all the times and just outside the place I was still singing SOTT, but nobody cared about me, my "guest" too.

And do not forget this thing: last time in Italy for Prince was in 1990. Most of the people forgot Prince and his music.

About the guy on the stage, that spoke about money, it's very easy to criticize, isn't it ?
Maybe he could choose another topic, maybe he could change his "pusher".

I'm joking...
see you there

respect? does he had any ?
what is said is not only in the written words and what I didn't like is what I've seen between the lines.

BTW : Liar = someone that doesn't tell the truth.

We were there but.. was he?

Unfortunately I know for sure that SpcMs was in Milan... I even understood who you are... I was standing on the right of the girl you so charmingly call "the fat lady who looked like drag queen and sounded like a retarded bitch", and I can say that of course you have the right to sit down and rest, BUT it's also true that we had our fuckin' right to be standing without having you pushing us towards the front and the other people forcing us to stand still and carefully try not to fall one over the other... so, different people and different points of view...

What I feel I have to add here is that I don't agree with you and you know why? I know that my friends and I, we all went wild during the show: I could see them and they could see me... friends who weren't in the NPGMC section but out there in the big crowd saw people dancing, singing and whatever... of course there were also those who weren't the "wildest ones"... but this doesn't mean the public wasn't good enough to compare with others (during the years I've seen many different rections during Prince's shows... you would be surprised at what people may do while The MAn is onstage!)... besides, be sure to remember that after Prince's decision not to come to Italy back in 1990 down here life went on... so this is why it's true that I think the Italian show was sort of hard to figure out for Prince at the beginning... but then, man, I think you weren't quite conentrated on what was going on around you...

Personal comment: it's sad that you feel the only way to attract someone's attention on your posts is to insult people...

Lulirom, our official voice, 4 me and all the italian fams!

I agree with U in all your words, and I think so our friends! smile

We can't suppose nothin' about the short soundceck (not only in Italy), only Prince can said about it. He looks very quite and amused by the conversation with the members. He laughs many times, mayb 4 our language, and we was very well-bred and happy.

The guys that I know who was all around said to me that the member area was incredible to see during the concert, and all the people in the other sectors was very deeply moved and astonished, too many years without a concert like this!!! smile

peace

he played just a COUPLE of hits: Sign of the times, Pop life, Raspberry Beret, Nothing compares 2 u, Diamonds and pearls, Purple rain. That's it. Believe me that tracks like Starfish and coffee, Strollin and Sometimes it snows are as obscure as Xenophobia to the casual fans (which were the 90% of the crowd). But everyone had fun!
This is NOT a greatest hits tour.

let's stop it here.

laura said what had 2 be said.

I only balme people postin' wrong reports.

Should we say then about the silence during "sometimes it snows in april"?, all the palace dancin' 2 the funk, all the people who knew the lyrics and challenged their english singing???

remember milan is not london (great show that I saw on beginning of october), and respect the choices of the artist in matter of songs played and spoken words.

the only negative fact was the price for the ticket (and the acoustic in the place)++
