UPDATED: Musictoday phone call experience

just so everyone knows, i called them today to order "N.E.W.S." and the 3cd "ONA Live" set.

i spent maybe 10 minutes on hold (which is a typical hold time for a monday with an online business).

when they guy came on the phone, he knew the answer to every question i asked (i didn't ask stupid shit like "when is the dvd coming out?")

i wasn't able to order BOTH items today for the same order today. he said if i wanted them both to ship at the same time (to cut shipping costs) to call back on the 25th.

otherwise, i would've been able to order "N.E.W.S.", or "ONA Live" (the 3cd set) separately.

their phone number info is here... they will verify your club membership if you want to order "N.E.W.S." but not if you want to order "ONA Live" (the 3cd set.)

if you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to give them a call. well, any questions except stupid shit like "when is the dvd coming out?") if we don't know, and it hasn't been announced at the npgmc, they don't know either...

No question is a stupid question and this one is even a very good question. Maybe they have the answer, maybe they don´t. The only way of knowing is to ask. If you keep assuming things you won´t learn anything in life.

if we don't know, and it hasn't been announced at the npgmc, they don't know either...

Again, you´re assuming things that you know nothing about. I would say the chances are very good that they get to know about the release before we do. I mean, they´re gonna handle the business and need time to prepare, right? But like I said, I don´t know either. The only way to get the answer is to ask.

U gotta understand, Musictoday doesnt know what prince is gonna do next, only within the few days before it will be availble, or perhaps a little sooner..

How do you know? Have you asked them? Or are you assuming things? And what if I happen to call on one of those days that are just a few days before the release? I repeat: you can´t go wrong with asking. It doesn´t cost you anything.

of course a retail shipping company's customer service people would NOT know what some musician's future plans are. Even if their company was getting the next release, customer reps wouldn't know about it. They're job is to answer questions about things they CURRENTLY sell and to help make the ordering process easy for you. They probably don't find out about stuff until it appears for sale. They aren't hanging around in the studio or at the cd manufacturing plants.

Is it really so hard to understand the concept of asking? You have no idea what the customer reps know or don´t know. I´ve called several customer services who can answer questions about future offers/releases. You simply don´t know until you´ve asked.

What´s wrong with you people? Are you really that afraid of asking things? Or are you incredibly annoyed when people ask you things? What´s the big deal?

or, being a longtime prince fan who owns 520+ prince cds, i know how prince works. he won't let them know until the last minute.

so if you want to call musictoday every 15 minutes while they're open and ask if the dvd's been discussed, good luck.

keep in mind too, that you'll be speaking to a csr (customer service representative). they don't know shit about anything other than what their computer says is in stock.

anyways, i'm sure you'll find something to pick at with this too, rather than getting the gist of my original post.

(which btw was if you'd rather order over the phone, you can. if you'd like news to ship with ona 3cd set, you can on wednesday.)

kthx.

FYI: the guy I spoke with on the phone identified Prince as having problems with his record label Sony. Good job suomynona, appreciate the information my friend!

what sucks is that prince is gonna read this (because someone will crosspost on the npgmc site) and prince will stop using musictoday because of these things. then we'll be stuck with a shitty place like archway again... grr.

Why would Prince read this and decide not to use Musictoday? It seems pretty obvious to me that even though a phone rep thought Prince was having trouble with Sony (hehe), they're friendly and the shipping is reasonable.

Of course, I reserve final judgement until I receive my CD wink

Thanks for the info, Suomynona...and for what it's worth, you're absolutely right in the fact that none of these reps are going to know anything about forthcoming releases, so there's really no point in calling them to ask. Let them do their job, which is to take orders for things that they ARE currently selling.

If you're eager to find out when the DVD is going to be released, bug Prince and the club...not Musictoday.

Until it is announced it is none of our business and I am sure even if they do know they wouldn't tell anyone if they asked. That would run the risk of losing the business.

So stop repeating yourself then!!! Do us a favor, Vibrator: call Musictoday and ask them if they know when the DVD will be released. Then come on here and let us know what they say. Okay?

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but DAMN. I mean, the whole "You don't know if you don't ask!" thing is in my opinion silly. You also don't know if Prince fucks Mani up the ass unless you ask him...but y'know, I figure he'll let us know if and when he wants to.

That was TOO a good analogy!

"Let me introduce you to my little friend... the Blue Angel!" Prince says to Mani using his best Al Pacino voice.

the hold time today is around 25 minutes...

ordering both items cost $69 (heheh)... i did have to give my npgmc membership info...

my musictoday csr said that the demand was much higher than anticipated and prince is having to press more cds and that the delay for people (like myself) who didn't order right away will be at least 1-2 weeks.

with prince and his fascination for certain numbers, i jokingly told him anywhere between 7-17 weeks...

haha...

anyways, i'm in no hurry. no one else should be either.

p.s. i asked for vibrator... and of course the csr had no idea.

I guess that's a positive thing. Due to the albums critisism here on the org, I'm somewhat surprised. I think a lot of people (like myself) ordered more than one copy to give to non members etc.
