Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarist...

Checked out the list.. I didnt see Prince name.. Funny, I'd thought he would at least get in the top 30.

Why do you'll think he deserves a place in that top 100 ???
I which song does he prove to be a great guitarist?

Okay, he doesn't miss half of his notes like Slash did ...
but that doesn't make him a great guitarist.
And he really can jam on that guitar ...
but you'll known it's about the solo's in that top-100.

I think Prince is a great musician ...
But do you really think he's a better guitarist than

... Jimi Hendrix?

... Eddie Hazel?

... Jimmy Page?

... get a life!

Why all this fuss about Prince as a guitarist ...
Why doesn't it bother you he ain't in the top-100 of bass-players ...

Steve Vai,Carlos Santana,Miles Davis have all praised Prince as a guitarist. No way he should not be on this list.

Come on now. All guitarists at that level are simply amazing. To split them is not really something u do based on ability but on preference. There are many guitarists around which are also incredible but aren't famous, and aren't considered in the league of these people only because they haven't played anything memorable and basically aren't stars.

A standard session guitarist is an incredible musician, and could deserve to be in the top 100. It's just based on who u are, who u play with, and what memorable tunes u've played.

Personally I love Prince's style, and love his rhythm guitar in particular, so I would put him in my list.

It's absolutely subjective.

Don't for one minute think there's some kind of universal truth of which guitar is better than so-and-so! It's not a science.

Man, I've been waiting for this one. I'm guessing that Rolling Stone only has one list of the 100 greatest guitarists. If this is true, someone please tell me how Wyclef made the list and Prince didn't. I'll wait...
One more thing...Prince's solos don't rate a top 100 listing, Thataintfunky? Keep it real, baby! His solos kill! It looks like he's mentally and spiritually leaving the building when he tears into one. I'm not saying that he's the best of all time, but there aren't alot of cats that can fuck with him on any instument...especially the guitar, lead or rythm.

not in the top 100 - that is a major shock. Prince should be in the short list of people considered for the top of the list.

For a change of pace, I'm actually going to defend the l'il nose goblin.
Yes, I do think he should have a place on the Top 100. However, you do have to take into account the politics of the music industry. Since his "name change", he's done nothing to further his own cause (if he even had one) to be on a list such as this. He's essentially excused himself from the music industry and crawled into his own world.
This, we all know by now.
I won't claim that all the 100 people on that list don't deserve to be above him, because I don't know all of the names on it...therefore, I can't speak of their talent (or lack thereof).
The man was once a fantastic guitar player...and he has been praised by some of the best. But, I will go back to my notation of the "name change". I recall in many "interviews" before the "name change", he was cited as naming people like Jimi as his influences...hell, he even kinda looked like Jimi for a while. But, after the "name change", when asked what his influences were, he said, "me". Simply put, he took back his own words and dissed everyone he ever said he admired. So, I don't blame the music industry for giving him an arguable raw deal on this list. All the same, I'm sure, if none of this ever happened and he was sane, he would've had a spot on that list for him.
But, the real question is...does he even care anymore? I'd have to say, I don't think so. Given that he's done his best to ensure that he shuts out everyone and everything that brought him to a pinnacle position in his chosen career, I'd definitely have to say that he doesn't.
But, I digress...that's just my 2 bits. I realize it looks like I've done virtually nothing but bash him (again and again)...but, I really do believe he deserves a spot in there...somewhere...

Anxiety

Ridiculous.

I remember a trade magazine for guitarists listed him as one of the top ten musicians of all time - that would mean more to me than a list compiled by a magazine that just had the Olsen Twins on the cover.

Now I love me some Joan Jett, don't get me wrong, but I'm guessing even SHE would agree that Prince should be on the list before her.

And did I understand correctly that Wyclef is on the list? Color me naive, but other than maybe seeing him strum an acoustic in a video, I didn't even know he played guitar...or at least, I didn't know he played guitar well enough to be on a list of the best of all time.

Is Madonna on the list?

You mean Wyclef is on that list while Prince isn't?
Then they either have something personally against Prince or really don't know what the F they are talking about.

Besides that, I agree with fauxnewbie.

What's with all those stupid lists?

Since the new millenium there are countless lists ...
most of them don't mention Prince ... so what

do you care what's the public opinion?

Stupid "I wanna be the greatest" American thing!
Stop paying attention to those lists.

Forget about lists like this folks. RS and most of the people who read it don't know good music or great musicians. They only understand what is popular right now or if you're dead you can make these types of lists. RS is bullshit, so just ignore it.

What with the hostility? Who said Prince was better than Hendrix? Prince IS a great guitarist and if you have seen him live you know that. Let me ask this - you mean to tell me that there are 100 guitarist out there that are better than Prince?
