Dawn Robinson--"Dawn" very overlooked LP

I bought this LP once it was released(thats early last year) and from that day till now I'm enjoying every moment in this motha to the fullest. Very well produced and Dawn couldn't sound betta.

Mellow yet groovy(my type of music) but I hate the fact that its over-looked.

I don't wassup with Dawn anyway, its like she's having the fuck you attitude 2ward everybody. I still don't know whats the reason behind her beef with En Vouge & Lucy Pearl.

N E way,,,anybody have her LP???

Well think about it, 20 years of singing and no matter how close U come 2 the forefront U seem 2 get pushed back?

That's how Dawn is feeling... She did "PYT" 4 MJ, was in En Vogue, featured in The Firm with Nas, Foxy and whoever and when Raphael Saadiq's ego got in the way, he got rid of her... :I: say go girl, U know U can do it!!!

Rumour has it that Dawn maybe will return to the group which started it all for her - En Vogue. But there´s nothing confirmed yet. Sources said that another former member - Maxine Jones - thinks of rejoining if the *original 4* would hit the spot again. But En Vogue already has a new third member with Amanda Cole and will release their christmas album "Gift of christmas" at november the 12th. So the possibility of the original line-up isn´t given. And they also recorded new material for their new album released early next year which should be less contemporary and more R´nB´ and street according to En Vogue member Terry Ellis.

Er.. she was the backing vocalist 4 MJ's "PYT" in '83 (and a few other tracks off the Thriller LP),

En Vogue could have possibly been an amicable departure but didn't U realise that after "Don't Mess With My Man" was released, she was immediately replaced?

Raphael Saadiq claims 2 B the brainchild of Lucy Pearl and he thought she got 2 much focus on that track and got a lil' frustrated hence the departure.

Whoa,,man I don't live in this world. I didn't know that she was a back-up 4 da thriller LP eek

According to Saadiq's words "She's just crazy as hell" in what way? I don't know. But it seems(I guess) that biz ppl are sick of her becoz she's not easy going. She said that in her interview with Essence magazine that them folks say that she's "a bitch" becoz like I said she ain't an easy chic.

Oh well,,,there's still something missing here.

"Dawn" sucked. It had two halfway listenable songs, the rest was garbage. The production was faceless and the entire effort had no personality.

I like Dawn, she has a great voice. But she needs someone to guide her career "a great producer"--not today's definition of a producer, which is some kid with a drum machine and a G4, but an Arif Mardin/ Jerry Wexler. She could be on par with the "divas"-- stronger voice that Mariah, not as Crackish as Whit, is not prepackaged ala Ashanti and 1000 others, is gorgeous, unlike Celine...

Let go of the ego and the idiot boyfriend (currently also her manager-- when will female artists learn???), and give in -- this is a case where she NEEDS the industry machine. She is a voice, not a creator of music.

She ain't on My Version of "Thriller"& I Read Credits hardcore on Albums.matter of fact She was a Young Girl when "THriller" Dropped anyway.but anyhow Her Material is a dime a Dozen&Folks have called Her a Bit touched for Years.Musically She can Sing but from what I've heard She is better within a Group than as a Solo Artist IMHO.

Right before Dawns' CD came out last year, there was an article on her in Vibe magazine. She was making fun of the fact that EnVogue's own albums weren't doing well without her.Well, now that her OWN album is collecting dust in the cut-out bins,I guess what goes around comes around, huh? wink

All I can say is what a FINE specimen of a woman Dawn IS!!! Have mercy...that woman is too fine!!!

Good Morning All,

Harlepolis I will have to borrow Dawn and give it another listen. Upon initial listening of the recording, it just sounded like your average-run-of-the-mill R&B talking about how everybody is just hatin on her and what have you. I do recall there being a couple of nice tracks on it and the sista CAN sing. But the CD to me wasn't worth me forking out the cash for it. I really hated En Vogue disbanded. Lawd...what man can resist that video "Givin Him Something He Can Feel"? OOO WEEE those tight fitting red dresses!!!

Several months ago,I heard that Clive Davis signed EnVogue to his J Records label. He wants to help them make a comeback, and he is persuading all four original members to patch things up so they can do a real reunion CD.If anyone can bring them back to the top,it's Clive Davis.

LOL you're the perfect example of an old tyma trapped in the kids world((Which is great!! biggrin))

Well, she only have a ONE song called "Evious" and thats the only track where she pulls the "stop-playa-hatin" divattitude. But you gotta listen to "The Meaning Of A Woman" and alot more. I think the sistah got mad skills, she just need direction thats all.

--->Some of U guys are being a lil' harsh on her even tho ya'll didn't hear the WHOLE LP.
