New Yorker Talks to Hoffman About Visit With Prince

In this day and age when you get an exclusive to Prince, you become the subject of much conversation. Such is the case for Claire Hoffman who recently interviewed Prince (a rare feat indeed) and is now answering questions himself. This, whether you believe the reporter or not, is worthy of your time. Get a glimpse of The Kid through one reporter's eyes (sans recording device... remember?). Posted by suomynona in Prince: Music and More (100 comments)

Prince gets funky with Q-Tip in Vegas

During a weekend show in Las Vegas, rap veteran Q-Tip was joined on stage by none other than Prince, who strapped on an ill-fitting guitar and rocked along to "Vivrant Thing", later commenting that he "felt like the bass player from The Clash!" All the misquotes love Prince in the New Yorker?

Only hours after the New Yorker's Talk of the Town mini-interview with Prince was posted on the magazine's web site, celeb site DrFunkenberry.com piped in with word from Prince's camp that the legendary literary weekly misquoted his comments. At least they got the soup flavor right? Posted by funkteer in Prince: Music and More (171 comments)

Prince interviewed at Hotel Gansevoort event

Rolling Stone Reviews Prince's October 10 charity gig and aftershow

"The tight space allowed Prince to interact with the audience in ways that he probably couldn’t at, say, London’s O2 Arena, even stepping down into the crowd in the middle of of his “Beggin’ Woman Blues.” When someone shouted “Purple Rain,” he slyly murmured “That’s my name, don’t wear it out.” When he finally played it, everyone in the room helped fill in the background vocals on the coda," says the recently-resized pop culture magazine. NY Times review of Prince show at the Hotel Gansevoort

"On Friday the stock market concluded a brutal week, its worst in history, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average having lost almost 1,900 points, just under a fifth of its value. But were you still feeling flush, or maybe a bit oblivious, a familiar if rare indulgence was available in the rooftop loft at the Hotel Gansevoort in the meatpacking district: a concert by Prince." “Buy them all and make your own judgments.

You know what?
Sign O The Times is an album I can't listen to all the way through; Hot Thing, Adore, It, Forever In My Life and Slow Love bore me to tears.
New Power Soul however I love pretty much all the way through, bar 'eye Like Funky Music'.
I love Emancipation and NEWS all the way through, but by loving those two albums, I seemingly go against just what Prince fans are meant to love/hate. That said, I still consider myself a hardcore Prince fan nonetheless. Also, for me Planet Earth is 45ish minutes of great music - it's not a guilty pleasure, it's a great pleasure!

We all love different things and we all love different music. Prince fans are blessed in so far that we've got so much to listen to and so much musical diversity to love/disregard within one man's work.

If you enjoy Prince's work then legitimately buy his albums and make your own mind up - I genuinely believe that true fans will enjoy all of his work, even if they don't necessarily love it! For anybody to say that they 'hate' any kind of music seems ridiculous to me. You can surely either love music or feel indifferent to it. Why would you actually 'hate' music?

You might just see that the general view of the Org ain't necessarily your own view. That's what I've felt over the years, but it doesn't matter.

“Yes and no. I mean, nobody has done nasty better than Prince. But I've always respected him for aging well in this business. He's not out there still lookin' and acting like some 20 year-old sex fiend. He knows when to put things away. Seriously, how could a 50 year old man sing Head and still maintain any kind of dignity? He can still be sexy...just not THAT nasty!”simm0061, 4/08 in the forums

“The sexy material is all preserved...whether it be within an old recording, or a memory.... If U don't love Prince, 4 the 99 other elements that He is as a musician, than I suppose you are disregarding Prince's nature...Because if you listen closely...Prince is spiritual, more than He is flirtatious.”Tame, 5/08 in the forums
