(June 5th, 2008) We were down for the last 5 days due to a catastrophic failure in the power systems at our hosting provider.
Sorry about that, wish there was something we could have done, but we were just waiting on the provider to handle things on their end. (I know some folks thought this was because we had warned of downtime with the message below, but it actually was totally unrelated!)
Finally, this morning, at about 4am Pacific Time, they finally restored power and full functioning to the primary prince.org server. So, good to be back! You can check out more details, or comment, in this blog post about the incident, as well. Whew!
prince.org will be relocating to a new (faster) server shortly. Please expect the site to be down, or up in a limited capacity only, during the move. We hope to have it back up quickly, but these things don't always go as smoothly as one might hope. I don't expect it to take more than 6 hours, but just be prepared!
Thanks for your understanding!

After Norwegian label C+C records released an impressive 5CD box set of artists covering the songs of Prince, the label thought it would be nice to send the man himself a complimentary copy. Prince responded to the gesture via his team of lawyers, who demanded that all copies of the "Shockadelica" box set be destroyed. Meanwhile, Prince has reportedly squashed the release of Scandanavian band Love Is All's cover version of "Darling Nikki", which was to appear on an upcoming EP. The feminist pop culture publication Bitch has published an article in a recent issue about Prince (written by the org's very own SnakePeel!), in which the gender politics of his lyrics are called into question, with mostly glowing results. An interesting read for those who like to take a dip into the analytical side of Prince's work... Posted by meow85 in Prince: Music and More (78 comments)
The original configuration of The Time regrouped for the beginning of their summer residency at The Flamingo in Las Vegas - orger jwashin4 was there, and was kind enough to share all the details. Sounds like a great night of fun and funk! Posted by jwashin4 in Associated artists & people (59 comments)

The widely circulated pop culture magazine is celebrating its 1000th issue by rating the top books, films, and other media of the past quarter century, and Prince's legendary 1984 soundtrack won top honors for EW's best album of the past 25 years. The venue for Prince's upcoming Dublin performance released a statement informing fans that the June 16 show has been cancelled, "due to reasons beyond the control of Prince and MCD Productions." Plans are underway to reschedule the concert for 2009. Posted by KatzMccaff in Concerts (460 comments)
Call up the a-list and light the candles, it's time for another Prince party...and according to reports, this one did not disappoint! Located at the Purple One's house in L.A., guests were treated to advance images from the upcoming "21 Nights" photo book. Of course, those in attendance also enjoyed a performance in the wee hours of the night by Prince & the NPG, who covered a handful of '60s classics before rolling into the tried and true "so many hits, so little time" playlist. In a small blurb, USA Today's May 29 edition mentioned the "hottest ticket" of this year's BookExpo America publishing industry gathering, which happens to be none other than a celebration for Prince's forthcoming "21 Nights" photo-essay tome. Posted by prime in Prince: Music and More (21 comments)
In a recent interview, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke discussed Prince's performance of their song "Creep" at Coachella, and was asked how he felt about all video clips of the Princely cover version being yanked from YouTube. "Really? He's blocked it?" the singer replied. "Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our song!" Posted by Anxiety in Prince: Music and More (345 comments)

Original Prince axeman Dez Dickerson and the Purple One's sister herself, Tyka Nelson, are the latest names added to the impressive roster of past and present band members and associates slated to attend The 2nd Annual Prince Family Reunion at The Cabooze nightclub in Minneapolis. Strategically scheduled on June 6, the evening will also include appearances by Michael Bland, Eric Leeds, Matt Fink, Sonny T., and many other familiar faces and surprise guests... That's right - Morris, Jerome, Jimmy, Jellybean, Terry, Monte and Jesse will regroup for a series of dates at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, starting June 24 - July 5 and July 29 - August 5. Posted by nitab in Associated artists & people (54 comments)
Apparently purple and even peach & black have given way to the yellow and black stripes of a bumblebee in Prince's wardrobe, as he's been following his newly-embraced menagerie of female artists, The Honey Collective, all around town... Posted by Giovanni777 in Prince: Music and More (218 comments)
...and why is Prince naming himself its "honorary mascot"? The purple one has reportedly lent his name to a group of self-proclaimed "hip-hop matriarchs" (including, we're told, the NPG's very own DJ Rashida), who seek to revolutionize the Hollywood music scene. “Yes and no. I mean, nobody has done nasty better than Prince. But I've always respected him for aging well in this business. He's not out there still lookin' and acting like some 20 year-old sex fiend. He knows when to put things away. Seriously, how could a 50 year old man sing Head and still maintain any kind of dignity? He can still be sexy...just not THAT nasty!”—simm0061, 4/08 in the forums
“The sexy material is all preserved...whether it be within an old recording, or a memory.... If U don't love Prince, 4 the 99 other elements that He is as a musician, than I suppose you are disregarding Prince's nature...Because if you listen closely...Prince is spiritual, more than He is flirtatious.”—Tame, 5/08 in the forums
“I connect with this song so strongly I find it hard to know where to begin....for me this was the ultimate Prince song and it came about at a time when my violent, alcoholic father had just left my mother....thank God! This song made me feel like someone else understood exactly what I was going through......its part of what really drew me in... It's a song I not only appreciate, but would like to thank Prince for.”—chillichocaholic, 5/08 in the forums
