What's a "Crystal Ball order"?

Crystal Ball was originally available to order through 1800 New Funk which was his first attempt at a 'direct-to-fans' website and that was also the phone number you could ring for merchandise. Prince took orders for the album but said he would only release it once there were something like 100 or 150 thousand orders. It was touted as an exclusive offer for fans only.

Months later, and suddenly the Crystal Ball package appeared in record shops, before the online orders had even been sent out, so hardly exclusive to patient fans. Some people complained they never received their order or their order was lost. All in all it was regarded as a disaster for relations with fans, though I tend to think, hey, it was one of the first attempts by anyone of selling an album like this, so of course there were glitches. Of course if the glitch happened to you, you're far less forgiving.
Was the fan product slightly different than the other (An exclusive cover, maybe)? If so, it's still a good idea. That way even if there's a glitch, they still end up with a limited edition.

I wouldn't mind the glitch, either. It's the misleading part that would bother me.

In some ways, the fan-ordered one was worse! It didn't have a cover or inside booklet like the store-released version - it came in a transparent petri-dish-type can with just the CDs. However, it did come with a 5th CD - Kamasutra (which is pretty poor instrumental pseudo-classical music by Prince for a proposed ballet Mayte was gonna do).

They did try to make up for it by later sending out the cassette version of The War, a T-shirt and the Emancipation lyrics booklet.

would u like 2 know some of the setlist?

TO GRAYCAP23

it is not of good intentions of you to ask if anyone one was interested in the setlist for the tour of 3121 and then not give the full list. only giving the list from the obvious list of material from the album in a given. i know that you can see here that you asked the question and did not just give the list to the memebrs of the org which shows that you wanted attention from the members of the org to respond. and with your past results from posting certain information, you very know and see the reactions you may very receive from members here on the org. therefore i can conclude that this is pleasurable to for some reason that you continue to post in this manner. i can say this. . you are an attention getter and you definantely stir it up roun here. . . you are accomplishing your tasks. prince is the issue here, you are absolutely right about that. but you are using prince to fulfill your stirring purposes for attention. the time is drawing near and i hope realize that you may not have the attention you so need anymore if you are not correct. if you are correct than i want to be the first to shake your hand and show the utmost respect and apologies. but if in fact you are wrong . . i hope you have learned your lesson of all this troble you went thru.

That's not fair.

Anyone here, is here because they want "some of the setlist"...but you also have to remember that no one knows who you are. Perhaps it's not as much greed as it is to be assured that you are a legitimate source.

It takes a grain of salt and a sense of humor to tolerate this thread and since you created it, you should have the same.

The Hockey Puck CB! I wonder if Prince actually tested it out before sending it out or making a bunch of them. I couldn't see how the discs would not get scratched.

I only knew folks that got the War cassette. I didn't know about any tshirt of the booklet that I bet was stockpiled as no one ordered it in the first place!

The Kamasutra CD and different packaging were supposed to make up for the difference. Trust me if you were waiting for the CB to arrive and you saw it in the stores, it would have pissed you off. And any attempts to call the 800 line were fruitless.

am curious-can't help it-does the person who called you and gave you this tour information keep calling you and telling you how to respond to all these fan questions?
my vibe isn’t negative, only wonderment as to why you respond in such a cryptic manor when your contact person gives you “truth”.

ahh and before yall say it: yes i know what curiosity did to the cat. wink

Glad you're feeling good and wonderful and all. Now hopefully you'll stop confusing inquisitive with "setlist-greed" because it's probably not about that at all. I'm sure everyone here would gladly trade the complete setlist for certainty that there will be a tour.

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

can't remember if it was in the video forum or somewhere else and now I can't find the thread...

i did not want more but i see the personality defect you have. i hope i could meet you face to face on day. i wanted to study a prince wanna be. someone that does not seem to have his own identity and thrives off of getting attention from others because they really are insecure and lonely. people like this dont like themselves and the attention from others gives them self approval. so the person thinks. if you really knew about Prince as he is today, you would know that he aint writing like he has down syndrome no mo'. but keep trying we all have to start somewhere.. . .one day . . i hope to sit with you and U CAN MATCH WITS WITH ME. . i know we would be the coldest of friends. . but i know you would never show.. your personality gives it away. .. it doesnt matter what the set list is in my opinion.. i feel like he has a big show this time, maybe bigger than Purple Rain shows & musicology. It is time for him to do it . . . the time is right. . but the next time you talk to him, ask him why is he talking to you?? and then come and give us a half post of why he is . . we can give you all the attention you need.
