I sort of feel like if I listen to it now it will ruin the hype and that I should wait to digest it on my own with the cd and my stereo. Kind of like when you see a movie that everyone's raving about and you leave all What to do, what to do... I'm glad to see a lot of people liking it--seems like a lot of the recent stuff gets no love from the fans... okay, it's late and I'm rambling... Someone will org it to U. I can't orgnote anymore today. The powers that be said I've org too much today and cut me off. Listen to it you'll like it and then go out and buy it.

This song has been released already? Shit. I need to download Itunes.

In a perfect world, I would be listening to this song right now and forming an objective opinion on the funkiness, of which I would then post for you all to ponder...however, this is not a perfect world and this song is not playing, nor would any of you be the slightest bit interested in my objective opinion of the funkiness exuded therein...soooo, if somehow destiny led it to be that I was to listen to this song tonight, I would gladly spare you all my opinion

It's better than anything from Musicology, I'll go that far.

It's wild, but by the third listen, it's fucking addictive... ...It didn't hit me too hard the first listen, but now I'm starting to get hooked.

I'm WEAK SO VERY WEAK! Two people orgnoted me and I listened to it right away. I have NO will power. But it was worth it. Black Sweat is definitely cool; I like it much better than Te Amo. There are a few parts I could do without, but it's definitely FUNKY and makes me even more hopeful for 3121. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

And how much more do you expect from a nearly 50 year old man? Just wondering, I respect ya anx, it's just that I've been a Prince fan since before a lot of posters here were even born. This is the first time in over 20 years I've been this excited about a new Prince track. I could care less if it charts, though I believe it will. Honestly, if Black Sweat don't get ya dancin' just find another artist to follow, Prince ain't gonna get any better than this, if he does, then he's truly turned back the clock!

I've got torn feelings about this track. Examined as a single, separate entity from the rest of Prince's catalog I find it to be be a rather surprisingly tight funk track coming from him at this point in time. The minimalism really works here. It makes me quite optimistic about the rest of 3121.
However, truth be told... in the grand light of day, this is nothing new. It fits into the same musical mold as songs like Irresistible Bitch, Kiss, Rave, Undisputed, ICP&C, etc... This is not a bad thing but it does make it a bit of a retread. I do find it interesting, though... TAC had those Parade era flourishes, and now Black Sweat feels like a "Kiss" for the new century. It's almost like Prince is revisiting 1986. His recent manner of dress and style is not incredibly removed from that period, either.

I don't want to debate you, cuz we agree for the most part. What differs Prince from some of these others is that his music has taken such a dive in it's "vital" or "relevent" factors. I was starting to really wonder if he could ever regain just the energy of his early years, now I think otherwise and that's a step in my book.
