i do, however, think he's going to have a creative renaissance when the novelty of his "legend status" dies off and he's faced with the idea of creating a lasting piece of work that challenges him in the creation of it and his listeners in their experience of it. i think it will be a different vibe than the "masterpieces" we all point to, but i think it's still in him. i'm waiting for it. if he records some dumb fun pop music until then, that's cool.

I don't want to debate you, cuz we agree for the most part. What differs Prince from some of these others is that his music has taken such a dive in it's "vital" or "relevent" factors. I was starting to really wonder if he could ever regain just the energy of his early years, now I think otherwise and that's a step in my book.

i don't expect him to make another SOTT or lovesexy. that would be silly. he's already made them, and i don't want to see him jumping on trampolines in his bikini shorts again at his age.

i do, however, think he's going to have a creative renaissance when the novelty of his "legend status" dies off and he's faced with the idea of creating a lasting piece of work that challenges him in the creation of it and his listeners in their experience of it. i think it will be a different vibe than the "masterpieces" we all point to, but i think it's still in him. i'm waiting for it. if he records some dumb fun pop music until then, that's cool.

Well, I'll leave that renaissance to those of you who need it. I hope the dumb fun pop era lasts about 20 more years! biggrin

i don't "need" it. heck, he could quit making music now and i'd be happy with what i have. but i'll sure enjoy it. smile

And how much more do you expect from a nearly 50 year old man?

I'm really not sure how being ageist is going to help matters. I'm hearing this more and more and it's a lame way of excusing what some think is crap.

Joni Mitchell released one of the best albums of her career, Turbulent Indigo, at over 50 years of age. She had great albums a few years before and after that one, as well. Other people have mentioned artists like Bowie, etc...

50 is not OLD when it comes to making good music. Sure, his style and maturity might change over the years but it's no excuse for a lower quality album from someone who is supposed to be a 'musical genius'. Any problems Prince has had in the area of his craft have little to nothing to do with age.

Love it cuz its not fluff .....needs a bit more edgy...but a remix would be very hot on this that would do the trick .....got good structure so it could be hot like irrestiable B .

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

mad Dammit...I hate it when my internet goes out in the middle of my post & then puts a blank post next to my avie!!! (like a few posts up!)

what I was trying to say was in response to:

Byron:
It's wild, but by the third listen, it's fucking addictive... ...It didn't hit me too hard the first listen, but now I'm starting to get hooked.

I know...at first I was like, it's tight. But then it grew on me and I have had it on repeat for the last 2 hours I swear. This week has been Prince overload--first the announcement of Tamar & Prince in NYC, then this, later tonight I'll be jammin' at the Nokia Theater in NYC, then SNL on Saturday. So many things to keep up with, but I say,

bring on 3121, I'm ready!! headbang
