THE PURPLE TICKET - Discuss Here

[Discuss the Purple Ticket here. Is this going to be like Willie Wonka?]

[Post on this sticky. All purple ticket threads will be locked and redirected to this sticky]

Due to legal concerns we ask you nicely - DO NOT publicly ask for boots/illegal copies of songs/other material on this website.

Persistant offenders will find themselves looking at temp bans.
(I'll be online all day and watching like a hawk...just so you're all aware) lurking

So please guys, help us out here - we don't like having to get all heavy, but the point must be made firmly. We WILL adhere to it if we have to.

This thread should only be used for discussing the Purple Ticket, and anything relating to the Purple Ticket.

Q: What does it take 2 make media folx cheer, whistle and clap?
A: 3121!

Has this "Purple Ticket" thing been confirmed?

All I remember seeing was the wishlist from the Universal people...none of which has even been rumored with only a little more than a month before release..

it's a ticket that comes with a few of the new albums
kinda like the willy wonka golden ticket system.

it gives you access to a private prince concert at his
house.

Well, are these few CDs containing tickets only going to be sold inte the US or all around the world? But, I guess you don't know that... Would have been cool to get one! I'd probably go all crazy and then I'd realize that I actually have to go to Prince's house and meet him and I'd get so nervous that I'd wish I'd never have got the ticket...

what is there to get nervous about. if you score a ticket, you will be in for
a very nice treat. the chance to go to a very intimate concert at his house n
probably a chance to talk with him for a little bit.

i bet he'll cater some terrific food and drink and you'd be humming along to
the best tunes all day long.

MUSICOLOGY sold more because it was included in the ticketprice during his US tour.. smart guy!

So before you know it, the next album will be available for free when you buy Prince stuff from NPGMC for instance.. or when yu buy some purple vegetables in the supermarket.. smile

you'd think with all the money he makes off his fans he wouldn't come up with an idea to sell on e-bay for some lucky bastard who dosn't like Prince to get the ticket and use it for his own self gain....ya, he's a great money maker...but give back to your loyal flock man.....we sit by for what seems like forever to get a new Prince CD and when it comes out he nudges us with the promise of a purple ticket.....i would rather meet him in a chat room for 24 hours...we all know he can stay up that long...than to have to purchase hundreds of CD's hoping 1 of them has the ticket.....he could play for us via web cam and chat for a while...that would be a lot cheaper on us.

This is what you do when you are finally aware that:
- Your martket reach has been eroded by your own self acting like a fool
- So many people really would like you if you could get past their sterotyping, and back on their radar

So he started by giving himself inflated "market" credibility with the Musicology CD per ticket scheme (brilliant).
As for the fans, the musicology tour had the hits people wanted to hear. He did not try to compromise on them, or stick them in a medley. He did them, had fun doing them, and gave the people exactly what they wanted. But he also gave them a band that he worked on for a few years, the best extended and often improvised jams, and an acoustic set that was out of this world.
He re-established musical credibility with a huge number of people who would have not giving him the time of day before.

With this many fans Prince has a very good chance of selling the album all on its own. He maximizes his chances with heavy promotion.
Some people will buy extra 3121's for The Purple Tickets.
Some people will be more interested if he has Wendy, Lisa and Sheila E.
SNL and The Brits, MTV Unplugged, are more than just going on a talkshow.
He will play less hits on this tour but it will still be more familiar stuff than not.
His extra outlet is Tamar. He knows he needs another outlet besides himself if he does not want to be bored. Also, Tamar has the possibility to appeal to a younger demographic and have many fans of her own. Tamar fans could be prospecitve Prince fans (and already are without knowing it).

He's picking up the pieces and he's doing it well. I love the Pruple Tickets and I'm very excited about 2006.

Clearly this hasn't been confirmed otherwise someone would have posted the confirmation.

I don't see how they'd work from an international point of view - if you found one in an album bought in Mongolia, are you really going to go to all the expense of booking a flight and accommodation?

Also, what if the tickets were in albums that remained on shelves in a record store for years, and then finally somebody buys the album and finds the ticket - they'd be pretty pissed to have missed out!

It simply can't work.

disagree with this ===> So he started by giving himself inflated "market" credibility with the Musicology CD per ticket scheme (brilliant).

The man sold over 1 million tickets to his concerts. There is no inflated "market" There clearly is a mrket for Prince and his music. It exists and its what makes him a player to Universal that along with the Music. You don't make all that money and have all of those people coome see you in concert and have an inflated market

everything else here is right on

I agree. I was referring only to the market for Retail Sales and the mainstream media marketing that goes with it. There are a lot of huge touring acts that can sell out arenas consistantly, but still won't sell many CDs.
