1. Musicology vs. 3121 Loving the funk in this song. Great stuff. But the vocals annoy sometimes. Guitar work is good. Definitely pips Musicology.
2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita Lolita is a top song. The keyboards are awesome. Like the vocals. Easily beats ICP&C.
3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón TAC does it for me. I find AMD too overproduced.
4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat Don't really like either of them. But while I think LOTP fails in everything it attempts to be, BS does work quite well as a party track. I'm calling Black Sweat.
5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles Just because I love Call My Name. Great vocals, and Incense and Candles is a load of rubbish.
6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love I'm gonna have to pass on this. Call it even.
7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied I never really latched on to What Do U Want Me 2 Do. It always felt like a forced song to me. Liking Satisfied.
8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury Fury is awesome stuff.
9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word The acoustic guitar laced over the drums works amazingly well.
10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed Never liked BL&B. Cool lyrics for On the Couch, as well.
11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance A very close one, but I'm going with The Dance.
12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat Reflection is such a perfect closer.

01. Musicology vs. 3121 (It's so "Camille" - I love it!)
02. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita (Lolita sounds like a Batman b-side (this isn't a put down))
03. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón
04. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat (Candy free!)
05. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles (Not even close, in my opinion)
06. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love
07. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied (I LIKE Satisfied)
08. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury (I really, really like Fury, but The Marrying Kind is my favorite track from Musicology)
09. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word
10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed (BL&B is much better here than live, imho)
11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance (Who said?!)
12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat (But it's very close)
"She made me glad to be a man"

1. Musicology vs. 3121 (Both good album openers, but 3121 is better)
2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita (Lolita is great!)
3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón (TAC has a nice Latin vibe)
4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat (I do like LotP, but BS is better)
5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles (I never liked Call My Name)
6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love (Cinnamon Girl is my favorite song from Musicology)
7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied (Not fond of Satisfied, at least it is a short song, I guess).
8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury (Fury for sure)
9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word (Close call, but The Word wins, despite some poor lyrics)
10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed (BL&B is fluffy, chart music, but good)
11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance (I really like this version of The Dance; another close call)
12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat (Reflection is such a nice song, and a great choice to end the album)

Musicology:3
3121: 9

In Moonbeam's style, I have marked each track to give a clearer indication of my thoughts....

1. Musicology vs. 3121
Musicology has the edge for me - whilst it's great to hear that Camille sound in 3121. Both songs are great openers and my opinion may change when 3121 is played live.

Musicology - 9
3121 - 8.5

2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita
Lolita - OK, so ICPC is an opinion splitter - you either love it or hate it. Me, I love it so the decision wasn't as straightforward as for some. Personally, I believe Lolita is just joyful - kinda playful and almost naive in it's lyrics. Loving it - especially the "Fellas.../Lolita... call and response).

ICPC - 8
Lolita - 8

3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón
A Million Days - Te Amo Corazon is definitely a grower and works well on the album, however A Million Days is a classic!

A Million Days - 10
Te Amo Corazon - 8

4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat
Black Sweat - hands down, no competition. LOTP is my most skipped Prince track ever! Just didn't fit with the vibe on the album and each time I heard it, it brought back memories of New Power Soul eek
Black Sweat feels retro and yet modern at the same time. I'm loving it!

LOTP - 1
Black Sweat - 9

5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles
Call My Name is one of my highlights on Musicology. Again, I know that opinion is divided, but I love it! Incense and Candles is probably one of the best duets I have heard from Prince for years and is definitely growing on me. Time will tell with this one...

Call My Name - 10
Incense and Candles - 8

6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love
Cinnamon Girl just edges out Love for me. I absolutely loved everything about Cinnamon Girl, from the message in the lyrics, to the video, everything! Love has a great flow, just sounds a touch dated to me though. I'm sure my opinion will change as I listen to this more.

Cinnamon Girl - 10
Love - 8

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied
Satisfied - OK, I'm a sucker for the ballads! I just love this and can guarantee this is going to be a live highlight (just picture Prince teasing the audience with this one). It reminds me of "Extraordinary" which I slept on at the time - I ain't sleeping this time! By contrast, I had heard What Do U Want Me 2 Do so many times before it hit the album that it just didn't hit for me...

WDUWM2D - 7
Satisfied - 9

8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury
Fury - close one this. I love both tracks for very different reasons. Fury just takes it 'cos I'm a sucker for that guitar!

The Marrying Kind - 9
Fury - 10

9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word
The Word - another close one as I love IIWTMIUL but The Word is subtle and understated and is my real highlight - a real classic!

IIWTMIUL - 9
The Word - 10

10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
B,L & B again appears to be a highly discussed song, with people either loving or hating it. This has really grown on me and is a great pop song. On The Couch is also a favourite (ballad = biggrin ) but B,L & B just takes it in a close call.

On The Couch - 8
B, L & B - 8

11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance
Dear Mr Man really works for me - the live version at Webster Hall just blows me away. The Dance just doesn't quite match up.

Dear. Mr Man - 10
The Dance - 8

12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat
Reflection is a great song and I loved the duet with Wendy on Tavis Smiley. Get On The Boat sounds a little misplaced with the rest of 3121, definitely seems like a Musicology afterthought to me. Having said that, I'm sure it's gonna be a great live song....

Reflection - 9
Get On The Boat - 8

Overall,
Musicology - 8.25
3121 - 8.5
Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

Musicology 9
3121 9

If push came to shove, 3121, maybe cus its new but probably because of the Camille vocal and guitar.

Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance 9
Lolita 10

A Million Days 10
Te Amo Corazon 8

Life O' The Party 8 (Why do so many people hate this song so much?)
Black Sweat 10

Call My Name 10
Incense And Candles 7 (This song is growing on me, hated it to begin with.)

Cinnamon Girl 9
Love 10

Satisfied 7
What Do U Want Me To Do? 8

The Marrying Kind 8
Fury 9

If I Was The Man In Your Life 10
The Word 8

On The Couch 7
Beautiful Loved And Blessed 8

Dear Mr Man 6
The Dance 10

Reflection 9
Get On The Boat 8

3121 wins

But Musicology is a great album has stood the test of time.

1. Musicology vs. 3121

3121 all the way. Musicology is a poser of other artists and 3121 is Prince posing as himself. Doing shit the way he used to, illustrating why he is a musical genius. That track is fun as hell headbang

2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita

ICPC Although I like the sound ol Lolita, I'm kinda creeped out about him singing about underage girls. Even if he is denying them. I like the quirkiness of ICPC.

3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón

A Million Days - The lyrics feel so much more real to me. I love this song very much. Te Amo Borazon should not be on on this album. It drags it down.

4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat

Black Freakin Sweat!. Another example of poserism but Prince is doing Prince again headbang

5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles

Call My Name love - I think Incense and candles is a fine song and intentionally targetted to the R&B audience but I prefer Call my name as far as Prince ballads. But I&C isn't a bad track. Not at all.

6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love
L-O-V-E!!!!! worship Prince is so on target with this song. My favorite by far. Someone somewhere on here said it was a mix of rock/funk/r&b/techno. This song is just perfect, but needs an edit. There is too much distraction at the end. When I make my copy I will edit that stuff out.

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied

Satisfied woot! - Never heard the original and I'm glad because people are bitchin about this version. And I agree that Satisfied is what On the Couch should have been nod

8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury

Fury - Marrying Kind was one of the only tracks on Musuckology that I really liked but I am hooked on the synths of Fury nod

9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word

This is really a tough one for me. I'm going to go with Man in Ur Life because I love the way it follows Marrying Kind.

10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

On the couch - BLB is another track that should have been left off this album.

11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance

THE DANCE! - I love this song so much. Another track that I'm glad I never heard the original because I think this song is stellar.

12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat

Get on the Boat by a million miles - This song is the jam headbang

overall I really really love this album. This is what he should have been putting out to mark his legacy, not that lazy crap called Musicology.

Gohi

1. Musicology vs. 3121
This is a funky jam whereas Musicology is a borefest.

2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita
You really can't beat the synthy Time-sounding Lolita. The overproduced and annoying 'Illusion' pales in comparison.

3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón
One of my favorite 2000-2006 songs. So passionate.

4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat
Life O' The Party is worse than every track on 3121.

5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles
A very tender ballad vs. a bland R&B number? Hmm...

6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love
Love is my favorite track off of 3121 and Cinnamon Girl is my 4th favorite on Musicology so...

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied
No contest. I love these types of slow jams.

8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury
Fury is the shit. The Marrying Kind is just... shit.

9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word
The Word contains actual depth and intelligence.

10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Like I said before, I love these slow jams.

11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance
I really detest Dear Mr. Man. Horrible lyrics and very drab composition.

12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat
Damn that was hard. I love Reflection, though.

4/12 were Musicology songs.
8/12 were 3121 songs.

I prefer 66% of 3121 more than Musicology.

Thats wierd, I prefer 3121, but when you match the song up like this it comes out in Musicology's favor. Oh well, I like both.

Good thread! I listed the winner the album the winning track was from.

Musicology 1. Musicology vs. 3121(The title track of "3121" is the only questionable track so far...even with the Camille synthesized vocals..."Musicology", shockingly, wins...Both are good openers but not singles....Too late for that, huh)

3121
2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita ("Lolita" lyrics drive me crazy because the song is so similar to "What Do You Want.."...is Prince having major issues not cheating on his wife? Still it's funky and "Illusion..." is a boring ass chant/rap)

Musicology 3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón ("A Million Days" is one of my favorites from "Musicology". The rocking guitar and the famous Prince scream at the end...."Te Amo Corazon" is a nice ballad but it loses)

3121 4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat(No contest...."Life O' The Party" is one of his most lifeless tracks that tries to be exciting...He and the band are bored and it shows! "Black Sweat" is thrilling funk and has awesome, catchy lyrics...one of his best ever although it could be longer!)

3121 5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles ("Call My Name" is pleasant but "Incense" kills with it's ending rap even though the lyrics are a bit tamed down on purpose, which sucks)

Musicology 6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love("Love", despite the simple title, is a surreal song and the best use of Tamar as a background vocalist however "Cinnamon Girl" has such an catchy chorus and is Prince rocking hard....One of his best politcal lyrics)

3121 7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied("What..." is a nice soft R&B/pop song with good storytelling but "Satisfied" is soulful Prince seducing his woman and the listeners...a case where Tamar background vocals aren't needed!)

3121 8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury
("Marrying" has some nice guitar but "Fury" features a great mix of Prince jaming on all the instrutments..very old school but still fresh...the guitar work reminds me a bit of everything from Neil Young to hair bands....in general his solo cuts often beat out the ones with the band)

3121 9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word("Eye" is nice but "The Word" is hot jazzy funk...and not preachy...Sounds like Prince with the band,,,,but once again solo!)

3121 10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed("Beautiful" is a bit of an ego trip and gives listeners an opportunity to hear why Tamar seems to be a person that Prince was so interested in that she is the co-star of this album and soon to get her own..."On the Couch" has eye raising lyrics but isn't all that memorable).

3121 11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance("Dear Mr. Man" is Prince attempting to address politics but it's not as biting and powerful as "Cinnamon Girl"...."The Dance" is a nice slow jam...kind of haunting..."R&B" artists need to take note on how a real song is done!)

Musicology 12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat
(It wouldn't be a recent Prince album if it didn't end or begin with a James Brown tribute...Maceo's solo is surprisingly the least James Brown sounding thing on the track on the highlight...It's actually better than "Muiscology" the song...tighter and more original...also, Tamar's vocals aren't needed!....so I have to go with the simple and touching "Reflection" here)

The results don't surprise me. "3121" thrills me with it's awesome mix of upbeat stompers and slow jams while "Musicology" felt too slick and wanted to be a comeback..."3121" is Prince truly fusing styles and instruments and thus making great songs. Lyrically, though, "3121" is kind of weak and "Musicology" better tracks like "Reflection" and "Cinnamon Girl" do a better job in that case. Still, I would say "3121" is one of my favorite Prince albums and that is not something I said when I first heard "Musicology".

mad I hate when that happens too.

The reason that happens is because the Org has an automatic time-out where if you are inactive for I think 15 minutes (say, typing a long post!) it logs you out. sad That's why you should copy any big post before you actually post it so you don't lose it. lol

1) 3121, easily. musicology is fun but 3121 is cool. big difference.

2) illusion, coma, pimp, and circumstance. what a fun, arrogant song. lolita is cool but it sounds too much like "well, this is how cool i used to be."

3) a million day gets this vote. te amo is cool and sultry but a million days is desperate...it bleeds through on the cd.

4) black sweat. its a good jam without sounding like its trying to be a good jam. life o' the party comes off like p's trying to convince us he's aight.

5) incense and candles. but to be fair, i don't much care for either song.

6) cinnamon girl. that's my song. if i have to choose over the two, i think cinnamon girl rocks!

7) what do u want me 2 do. hot, hot, hot! i love this track. without being repetitive it manages to capture that really quirky dorothy parker feel. its not accessible but its not inaccessible either. its also just as hones as dorothy parker, dealing with awkward relationships. i love it!

8) fury. c'mon, the song rocks it!

9) the word. the best song prince has put on record in ages. seriously.

10) on the couch. i like the song but it wouldn't take much anyway to beat out blb. what a dud of a song.

11) the dance. i like dear mr man but the bit about not voting gets it dropped to the bottom of my list. i would prefer batdance over that track! the last thing any audience needs to be told is that there's no sense in voting. idiot.

12) sorry but i can't compare these two tracks. they each get a ton of emotion out of me but for very different reasons.

this would have been better to simply compare 12 tracks vs 12 tracks. not necessarily in the order they appear on the cds but just in general. for instance:

thoroughly enjoy: 3121, lolita, te amo corazon, black sweat, love, fury, the word, the dance, and get on the boat.

thoroughly enjoy: musicology, icpc, a million days, cinnamon girl, what do u want me 2 do, the marrying kind, if i was the man in ur life, and reflection.

that would put 3121 one song above musicology. lol

1. Musicology vs. 3121 3121! It could not have been done by anyone else than Prince!!!

2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita Lolita is a better song, I think...

3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón A Million Days wins

4. Life o' the Party vs. Black SweatDefinitely Black Sweat. Life o' the Party was my least favourite song in Musicology.

5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles Incense & Candles wins even I like a lot of Call My Name

6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love damn, this is hard...ok...Love wins...

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied Satisfied has more feeling on it

8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury Could not compare...they are so different, but let's say Fury

9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word The Word wins, because IEWTMIUL doesn't quite work without The Marrying Kind

10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed Perhaps On the Couch. BLB sounds lame to me

11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance Dear Mr.Man wins slightly

12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat
Get on the Boat...I don't particulary like this version of Reflection, though it was better with Wendy at Tavis-show.

Musicology 7 1/2
3121 9

So 3121 wins

I really like the first 3 tracks. That's about it. This kinda reminds me of the black album a little bit...but not so stripped down. I like it better than Musicology because it dosen't have that Emancipation type sound.

1.Musicology (**) vs.3121 (***)
I thought Musicolgy was cool, but not my typical flavor. I smell some P-Funk influence on 3121.Again not my typical fare but I do like and will listen too.
3121

2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance (*** 1/2) vs. Lolita (***)
ICPC was one of the better tracks on Musicology IMO. Funny and funky; while Lolita is nice in an old school Prince sort of way... ie a lot synth
ICPC

3. A Million Days (*****) vs. Te Amo Corazón (**1/2)
Te Amo Corazon is a nice track, but I like the video more than just the song solo. I liked A Million Days the first time I heard it and still keep it in my heavy Prince rotation.
A Million Days

4. Life o' the Party (**) vs. Black Sweat (***)
Life O' the Party never really had much life to me and saw the FF button too often. Black Sweat is a call back too days off old and it is enjoyable.
Black Sweat

5. Call My Name (***1/2) vs. Incense and Candles (*****)
Call My Name was oje of the better ballads Prince has ever made and would have faired well against most other songs on 3121... but not this one. I LOVE this track. It's classic Prince with some Troutman in there and a touch of todays hip- hop culture... but not as over bearing as has been tried in the past.
Incense and Candles

6. Cinnamon Girl (***1/2) vs. Love (****1/2)
Cinnamon Girl, just like the previous track, was one of the better on the album. It delivered a specific message and it worked for me musically... no complaints. But Love..... IMO is what is listen to Prince for. My only gripe is that it ended.
Love

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do (**)vs. Satisfied (**)
Neither track really grabbed me. Both OK but, I'll hit the FF button if I can reach it
Even

8. The Marrying Kind .(****1/2) vs. Fury(***)
No contesthere... Fury is rockin.. but The Marrying kins is one of three tracks on Musicology worthy of my all time fav list.
The Marrying Kind

9. If eye Was the Man in Ur Life(****1/2) vs. The Word.(**)
Thw Word is a mild sng st best even though it has a postive message. But thwe other track is one of my fav in recent years
If eye Was the Man in Ur Life

10. On the Couch ].(**) vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed(****
On the couch...ehhh.. nothing special. B, L & B... is exactly how I feel about this track.
Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

11. Dear Mr. Man (*1/2)vs. The Dance (***1/2)
Dear Mr. Man was one of my least liked tracks by prince in a long time. The Dance grew on my after a couple listen throughs and is typical of Prince's excellence... although nothing 'special'... very good non the less. I esp like the piano.
The Dance

12. Reflection (**1/2)vs. Get on the Boat(**1/2)
While completely different grooves... each track closed thier respective albums well

1. Musicology vs. 3121--3121 indicates what the whole record is about. The reason I'm liking it so much is that it sounds like Prince. Musicology, decent though it may be, didn't really sound like Prince.

2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance vs. Lolita--Lolita may sound like an old Prince groove, but it sounds like the one real misstep of the record, poorly written compared to the rest of the album, and one of the two embarrassing moments--see Incense & Candles.

3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazón--but not by much.

4. Life o' the Party vs. Black Sweat

5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles-- Never was a fan of Call My Name. I & C is cool & more creative despite the use of that vocal effect.

6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love--Love has been stuck in my head all night.

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do vs. Satisfied--At least What Do You Want Me To Do is kind of original. Satisfied is okay, but...

8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury--Fury works better on its own. The Marrying Kind only really works with the song after it.

9. If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life vs. The Word--The Word is a fantastic groove, topping what may be the best song on Musicology.

10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed--BL&B is a bit more original, but I like On the Couch, too.

11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance--Dear Mr Man never did much for me, I love the emotion on The Dance. That's what we used to get around '83 or '84. Lots of nice chord changes & piano, too.

12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat--I never quite got Reflection. People compare Get on the Boat to Pretty man but it's 1000 times better. Pretty Man is a cooler song idea, but much less of a complete & original song. Get on the Boat is more comparable to Sacrifice or Everlasting Now. Great.

I like Musicology okay, but 3121 is the first Prince record I think casual fans will like (and hardcore fans will argue about, but that's nothing new!).

1. Musicology vs. 3121

Winner: 3121

While Musicology is a bland, hookless JB tribute, 3121 has life and attitude.

Basically,. Musicology is Prince failing at doing James Brown, while 3121 is Prince succeeding at doing Prince.

2. I,C,P, & C vs. Lolita

Winner: Lolita

I,C,P, & C is a good song, but its dated production absolutely kills it. It has a great chorus and witty lyrics, but it's just mixed so, so poorly.

Lolita is a catchy pop song in the same vein as Sexy Dancer, but it sounds crisper and more well-rounded as a pop song.

If I,C,P, & C were remixed, it'd be a different story.

3. A Million Days vs. Te Amo Corazon

Winner: Te Amo Corazon

Te Amo Corazon is a very nice, breezy love ballad that fits in perfectly within its place on the album.

I like A Million Days, but once again the way it was recorded holds it back. Its guitar solo sounds perfunctory, and it has none of the energy that Dolphin had.

4. Life 'O' the Party vs. Black Sweat

Winner: Black Sweat

Life 'O' the Party is Prince trying to sound cool. Black Sweat is Prince showing us he's cool.

I actually like LOTP enough up until the horribly dated chorus. That's where it really falls apart.

5. Call My Name vs. Incense and Candles

Winner: Call My Name

Call My Name is familiar, but at least it's executed really well. Prince's vocals are right on the mark, and the lyrics are very sweet, if not a little simple.

Incense and Candles has grown on me, but it's too contrived compared to CMN.

6. Cinnamon Girl vs. Love

Winner: Love

Cinnamon Girl is an enjoyable pop rocker that lacks a strong chorus. It has a lazy, lazy hook.

Love is just so, so vibrant. The lyrics are fun, the techno beat is engaging without being distractingly plastic, and it has one of Prince's greatest attempts at a chorus in years and years.

7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do? vs. Satisfied

Winner: Satisfied

Both are weak points on their respective albums, but at least Satisfied has a Prince who doesn't sound flat-out bored in the studio.

8. The Marrying Kind vs. Fury

Winner: Fury

Both are good songs that pick up the momentum of their respective albums, but Marrying Kind's production is simply too stuck in the 90's.

Fury has a stronger, fresher sounding hook and overall sound.

9. If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life vs. The Word

Winner: The Word

If this was a battle of lyrics, The Word would lose. As it is, I have to give The Word the win here. It's a much more inspired, unique, and fresher sounding song from Prince.

If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life is constructed well, but The Word is simply fascinating.

10. On the Couch vs. Beautiful, Loved, & Blessed

Winner: On the Couch

Neither one are anything particularly special, but On the Couch has more soul, and doesn't drag on quite as much.

11. Dear Mr. Man vs. The Dance

Winner: The Dance

Dear Mr. Man is a pleasant Marvin Gaye number, but The Dance is sensational. It's atmospheric, brooding, sad, whimsical, and powerful all at the same time.

12. Reflection vs. Get on the Boat

Winner: Reflection

Reflection's a very pretty, introspective song that fits perfectly as a closer. Not to take anything away from Get on the Boat, which is a lot of fun, but Reflection leaves Musicology on such a thoughtful, somewhat somber note.

So, 3121 totally crushes Musicology in the end.

Final Score:

3121 9 Musicology 3
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."
