7 cd box set from NPG WTF?

This just up on the NPGMC:

Dig if u will the picture...
a box set of CDs from the NPG arrive at ur doorstep one Friday morning in the near future, just in time 4 the party u were planning 4 six of ur friends. u anxiously open, hoping it is- YES! The new 7 CD box set of XENOPHOBIA! But wait... u already bought this set from a bootlegger.

How do u feel?

first,
How do you get 7 cds for the whole week?

then,
I think its a cheap way to get out of his obligation to the club members.

That live box set should be offered for sell to the public on the website, I would still buy it. Give us the other membership cds you promised.

Oh, right. 7 CDs is just a cheap way to get out of fullfilling the commitment to giving us 4. You're really good with math. How do you get 7 cds out of 7 days of performances? Well, that is a hard one.

A cheap way?

He only owes NPGMC members 4 CD's. If he did this it would put the tally up to 8.

Its no cheaper releasing studio material than it is to release a live collection.

Have you lost your mind? 7 cd's!!! From the already legendary clebration 2002 performances... And NOWHERE is it said that this supposedly constitutes the 2002 cd entire cd package...

7 LEGIT live cd's... That's what any members DREAM is.

WTF??

Get a clue and try to figure out what this message actually MEANS...

All the cover songs edited out (wouldn't want to have to pay royalties) Whole Lotta Love. Or the Hendrix estate might get some more cash flow now.

Abrazo-
Don't want to get into a pissing contest with you. I think its just to get people started talking. I will believe it when i see it on my door step, edited, remixed, overdubbed (days of wild single), and all cover songs omitted and seven days fitting perfectly on 7 cds.

Maybe its a dream of yours but not mine.

I have a clue, and I will be happy if/when any music from NPG shows up in my mailbox.

Can't we all just get along

Essence

Well the bootleg would still contain unreleased material... it's 12 CDs.

The 12 CDs still don't contain the weeks guest shows (bar a few highlights).

OK OK already

I posted a thread about a month ago that asked..

'what if Prince fulfilled the club obligation with a live set from the celebration'

The overall answers were, 'I don't want stinking live cds'

So many responses and all were basically the same??

I'll start another thread saying how wonderful this news is and see if it gets negative responses

Apparently Paisley is going after the bootleggers. A few days ago a couple sites received an email from PP regarding their site's allegedly illegal activities and connections with the bootleg companies. They've been invited to an AOL chat. I think you can guess what the outcome of that chat would be.

Anyway, to get back to the message on NPGMC, I guess pretty much anyone buying bootlegs knows that it involves taking a certain risk in most cases. You never know for sure if what you're buying will ever be offically released. There's no way Prince will ever be able to release all those recordings that are out there, so my guess is that as long as they can, people will take that small risk and keep on buying bootlegs.

All this suggests that Prince is pointing the finger to the bootleggers for NPGMC's failure. It's a desperate attempt to get more members, thinking that if they eliminate the bootleggers, folks will have no where else to get their music from but NPGMC. I doubt it will make a big difference.

I don't wnat no pissing contest either jthad... but I seriously think you need to reconsider your stance about 7 cd's not fullfilling prince's obligations. That's all. There is no attacking, just the observation that your opinion can at the least be viewed as quite ackward, since the man only promissed at least 4 new cd's. 7 live cd's, ONA and very possibly also the album 'Xenophobia' it self + perhabs even other albums...

That IS a dream man. THAT would be something he has never done before.
The only question that remains is... Is he serious about this?
And then I agree with you.

Let's first see and then be happy with it.

for allwe really can tell, this is nothing more than a question and not a promiss that he will actually release this stuff.

I don't think that constituted that the general opinion among Prince fans that live recordings are very much wanted.

Why else do you think so many live boots exist?

because everybody knows Prince is the shit live.

You know that too, so why do you complain about live music?

It woulkd be great for the members if he would release it.
he could also try and sell it on the retail for everybody interested. It's all possible.

However this would most likely mean that this will be the final set of discs for this year's contractual obligations. It's cheap in the way that the event which was going to be recorded anyway, will now replace studio albums. So in a way it's cheap because a multi-disc set containing live material is something totally different from 4 separate one discs albums with studio material for example, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.

I think Prince should release live sets from previous tours since they're just rotting away at Paisley. He already recorded them, so just get some post-production going and get paid muthafucka. (hell he should have done that years ago already)

I'm sure some folks would be completely satisfied with this Xenophobia live set, but it shouldn't be something released to get out of this year's deal. It's really just the Celebration in a different form. IMO similar to taking last year's music club songs and releasing them as a compilation set.

That might very well be true. Not just to get them talking, but this will most definitely result in less sales for the bootleg Celebration sets.

I would indeed be very happy with a Xenophobia set, but I doubt that this should be taken as an actual announcement that this will really be released.

i don't own any bootlegged prince material. in fact i don't even have his complete collection, like the old stuff/

but, IF i had bootlegged the celebration somehow and then i received a new set from NPGMC, i would value them both, for different reasons.

owning a bootleg wouldn't necessarily diminish a consumer's desire to own the official NPGMC release

errmm... let me rephrase that...

I don't think that 'I dont want no stinking live cd' constitutes the general opinion among prince fans, which is that live recordings are very much wanted.

that depends on the situation.
if you already paid for a good sound quality bootleg copy with artwork and all , not all will be so likely t purchase the offical release.
On the other hand when you have a crappy sounding recording on a file or cdr... an offical relase with perfect sound quality and artwork on cd sounds a lot better.

provided the LIVE recordings are not edited into a studio production of course!

I hope so Prince doesn't wish to take away the sound as it was when played.

Please... leave the edit button alone...

please? sad

okay, okay, okay... nowhere is it written that Prince will release this set.
