From HQ posted by JJFunky:
Prince is playing 7 nights from 1st August to 14th August 2007 at The O2 in Greenwich in London. O2 customers can buy tickets before anyone else, this Wednesday and Thursday by texting PRINCE to 2020.

At 3121, the rumor I heard from several people was that he was performing in London for 21 days straight. But I don't know where this is coming from. I might go, if it's officially annonuced and I can get some floor seats. Also, depends on what happens with LA. Have passport, will travel! However, if I don't hear it directly from Prince, I'm taking this with a grain of salt and proceeding very cautiously. Besides, after the intimacy of 3121 I'm not eager to go to the UK for an arena show. If this turns out to be true, I hope all that attend have a great time.

Fucking hell - that's a bit out of the blue..?

the coolest damn news though!

7 nights should mean that everyone gets a chance to see him.

And perhaps he'll do some major promotion work over here to ensure a full house on each night?

cool

How I wish the NPGMC was still in operation for some "priority" tickets, soundchecks etc.

That's the great thing. Even if you're not widly excited about his studio material, he always brings it on stage.

It's a big venue (i think?) so that'll probably mean it'll be a hits show though.. neutral

Wow. This is unexpected to say the least. The O2 in Greenwich is of course the Millenium Dome, which has been done out and is due to re-open in July, so it appears the new owners will be using Prince to promote the venue, being one of the first acts to grace the stage. Can Prince really sell this out for 2 weeks given his general lack of popularity in the UK or will his legendary status carry the day? It will be interesting to see. Maximum capacity seems to be 23,000 according to this blurb:

Sitting at the centre piece on the site of the former Millennium Dome, The O2 Arena now boasts a fully-raised roof and outline. The purpose-built street, which wraps around the complex and will contain a 2,000 capacity Live Music Club, 11 screen cinema, exhibition and theatre spaces as well as bars and restaurants, is now clearly defined.

Also announced were plans for The O2’s staging of an opening season across its different venues. Featuring a broad range of music, entertainment and sporting events, it will span the summer of 2007, designed for the maximum breadth of appeal. An Olympic Venue, in 2012, The O2 will host the Gymnastics and Basketball finals whilst in 2009, it will play host to the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

The first purpose-built music venue in London since The Royal Albert Hall in 1871, The O2 Arena offers previously unavailable benefits for artists, customers and media. A flexible frame means a bespoke capacity can be set from two people to 23,000; an unprecedented 50 tonnes of equipment can be hung from its roof, whilst the main floor can be transformed to an ice rink in two hours. Consumers can enjoy wide armchair soft seating and broadcasters can take advantage of integrated, high definition broadcast capabilities when covering entertainment and sporting events.

Can't afford to go every night for 2 weeks, don't know how on earth I'm going to decide which nights to go (or rather, which nights to unavoidably miss!)
