What song do U think makes the best use of a Prince sample?

What song do U think makes the best use of a Prince sample?

Some contenders are

* Pray (MC Hammer)
* Soft and Wet (MC Hammer)
* Darlin' Nikki (Tupac's segue)
* Jump Around (House of Pain)

As a side note, that new song with those two teenage lesbians from Russia, I'm sure that they use a sample drumbeat from Sex In The Summer. Have a listen and U'll see what I mean.

I don't know if this has been asked before but with the search engine down, I figured what the hell! Flame me if U must! lol

Best use of a Prince sample... hmmm..

I just love it when Prince samples songs from his own vault before the sampled song is ever released to the public.

So I would have to say Prince sampling Prince.

People always that it was his scream (from Gett Off?) that was sampled.

There's definitely a scream every measure or something throughout the song. I can't say it's Prince.

I think I know what you mean, but I've always thought that was the sound of bagpipes or something. I never thought it even remotely sounded like a human scream.

Excellent link there NuPwrSoul biggrin

I am 99.9% sure that it is the scream that opens Gett Off that is sampled in Jump Around! A lot of people get on my case about this, but try playing them back to back and U will see that they match! I think that the scream is speeded up slightly for the House Of Pain version and they obviously don't use the entire scream, just the front portion of it!

Evidently so. Not only did he sample him several times (and not just big singles, but album tracks), so did Digital Underground - which is the group where 2Pac started.

Tupac was a BIG Prince fan. If U ever get a chance 2 read his book of poetry entitled "The Rose That Grew From The Concrete" U will see his style of writing owes a lot 2 Prince. There is a foreword by Nikki ___ (Shit i can't remember her name, but she is a well know African American female poet, I think it begins with a G and almost sounds Italian) and she mentions Tupac's admiration of Prince (and disses Prince for being prince at the same time).

Thanks for the info, that's nice to know...

Okay, now that's interesting because I have the "Romeo must die" sountrack and remember a song from Joe that I really liked called "A Rose from a concrete world" was that written for Aaliyah, or any connection with Tupac? I did some searches, but no info on this yet...

I agree with you.I noticed the sample the first time i heard "Jump Around". Im also pretty sure it's Rosies "scream" and not Prince's (despite what is shown in the video).
