I'd have to go with 1999 for 'most funk content'.

1999, DMSR & Lady Cab Driver are definitely Funk.
& Automatic & All The Critics Love U In New York
are funky.

Controversy has the title track & Let's Work as
funk representatives, plus Sexuality & Annie
Christian in a funky vibe.

Dirty Mind has Head & Partyup as the main Funk
grooves, with the title track and Uptown as
having funky leanings.

So minute for minute, it's gotta be 1999.

But having said that, the 2 funk tracks onControversy are REALLY FUNKY.
ROTFL Boris, great analysis! You know you want to say Controversy...

mr.green

You're right,
for me, Controversy & Let's Work are real funk!
Head is real funk too (but that's only 1 track)
D.M.S.R. is the only 'real funk' track on 1999.

as Funkadelic said: If You Got Funk, You Got Style.
Yabbadabbadooo! That has made me happy, indeed.

woot!

1999 I think Controversy is definitely nasty funky but DMSR makes me vote for 1999!

1999 in a Blow Out.Dirty Mind&Controversy basically cancel one another out&there Re-Thread's which are tight cancel one another out.but Dirty Mind&Controversy had Tight Funky Moments but they weren't as tight to me as "Get it Up",Cool"&The Stick" IMHO Put together.but on "1999" Prince got it Right&Slammed.

This is surprising, I thought 1999 would have won hands down. Even though I don't think it is funkier, it is a better album overall.

Hmmm..I'll add a response:In the tradition of old school funk,Controversy is more traditionally funky. Also, the scratch guitar on here is mind bending.

I saw Prince for the first time on the 1999 tour.I was like,4 rows back.He had on purple gloves and was playing that damn scratch rhythm guitar lick!!I still have not gotten over that!!

This is an aside:if I smoked pot I wud definitely listen to Annie Christian and Let's Work in a 24 hour loop!!damn!!Maybe I'll start smoking pot. That wud be fun!!I could just veg out.

I suspect this is where 1999 will steal it. It has more fans but that doesn't necessarily mean it's funkier.

I think it would be easier to work out if we gave each song on the albums a funk rating and then calculated a funk average for each album.

ROTFLMAO! No Justin, funk should be about that feeling, you shouldn't need a calculator...

Dirty Mind is more rock-n-roll in spirit.1999 is more of a cold ,robotic ,futuristic funk.Controversy is warmer to a strictly funk listener.Old school funk was about dancing and Summer block parties.Controversy fits in that vein more.I love all these records, but when you listen to Blue Lights in the Basement type mixes the Controversy stuff is played and, rarely, anything off of 1999.You will ALWAYS hear HEAD,though.

You could, theoretically, cop a feel on Do Me,Baby and sweat like crazy to Let's Work and Controversy.

I made a really nice old school collection and I did put DMSR on it.It comes after Knee Deep by Parliament. On another mix I have Erotic City setting up Atomic Dog.
