Yeah RIP, but I still say to Alicia Keys. Alicia you don't have to worry now, cuz looks like Rick's the ones that's been spit out like a suppository for good. It pays to watch what you say cuz you never know where you gonna end up. Maybe now he can finally find peace instead of being bitter with his life.

- yeah, it would really be great if Prince played ´Super freak´ or ´You and I´ since both him and Rick are icons of american popular music.
It would be a way of paying respect to him.

Have any of you heard the Rick James album Glow? It seems no one knows it, but I think it's his best album. It hasn't been reissued on CD, it came out in 1985. You guys should really check it out.

I definitely remember "Glow". It was the first album of the beginning of his downfall. It was horrible.

Check out anything before "Glow"...that is good Rick James.

Interesting. Even wack ass major league baseball is trying to be relevant.

Yesterday I had the ESPN network on tv, and I wasn't really paying attention. Then all of a sudden I hear that bass line intro to "Give It To Me Baby"...it was that car commercial that uses it as a jingle. I hadn't seen that commercial in a while.

Is there a link to this review. I am very curious. I am a huge fan of both artists. I enjoyed the feud back in the day, it kept them both on their toes. In recent years though, I wished the two of them could eventually become friends.

Rick James' Cause of Death Uncertain

LOS ANGELES - An autopsy Saturday failed to determine the cause of death for funk legend Rick James, authorities said. James, 56, died in his sleep Friday at his home near Universal City. The singer was a diabetic and also had a pacemaker. He suffered a stroke in 1998.

His three children — daughter Ty and sons Rick Jr. and Tazman — said Friday through a spokeswoman that they believe their father died of heart failure.

James had a history of cocaine addiction that led him to two assault convictions in the 1990s and a two-year stretch in prison.

Officials are awaiting results of a toxicology test, which could take several weeks, said Lt. David Smith, supervising investigator of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

James's career peaked in 1981 with "Super Freak," a song so enduring that a strain of its infectious bass line powered the MC Hammer hit "U Can't Touch This" nearly a decade later.

The song earned the Grammy for best R&B song in 1990 for both Hammer and James.

James had enjoyed a bit of a revival recently, in part because of comedian Dave Chappelle portraying him as violent and arrogant on his "Chappelle's Show." James himself appeared on the Comedy Central show.

Bull. It waas Rick trying something different, more of a pop/rock flavor, it was Rick's last stand rather than the beginning of his downfall. Check out the review on the all music guide for a good summary.

Rest in peace to Rick James & Roger Troutman.

Two men of the same funk generation as Prince. I'll miss them both. But I'm very happy that I have all their greatest hits in my CDs collections.

Let us keep Prince & Teena Marie in our prayers in hopes that they will still be here to grow old & mature with the rest of us. Beside, they're the last of the old guards available to teach this young generation what creativity is all about. cool

Oh really...pop/rock my ass. Rick had been there and done that with "Super Freak". "Glow" was an album of weak ass shit. The only good thing on the whole album was "Can't Stop" which sounds a lot like "17" from the previous album, which sounds a lot like "Cold Blooded" from the album before that.

Rick's last good album was "Cold Blooded". The next one was a greatest hits album with three new tracks. "17" was so much like "Cold Blooded" it ain't even funny.

The album after "Glow" was "The Flag". That was a weak ass album just as "Glow" was. Next thing you know, he's no longer with Motown. The next album "Wonderful" was on Warner Brothers and it was weak too. You notice he didn't do another album for Warner Brothers.

I know my Rick James stuff.....do you?

I just read the sad news on Rick's website. I think it's a great loss for the Funk. sad To my opinion he's still the only worthy opponent of Prince. As a true fan of both Prince and Rick James I think RJ deserved much more attention than he eventually received ! Especially in Europe. Well sadly I hope the time of recognition may be now... post mortem.... Peace 2 U Rick ! [url]http://www.rickjames.com

I can't believe Rick is gone. I was riding the stationary bike at the gym when I learned. THey had CNN on. I saw Rick's picture, and I smiled. I just knew they were going show him saying some outlandish shit. But then I read on the screen that they had found him dead. I audibly gasped. Music has lost a true legend. No matter what he did with his personal life, Rick was a badass back in the day. And in his later years, he showed the courage to speak his mind when few in the industry will.

R.I.P. Rick.

The first album I ever heard Rick James' music as a child growing up is 'Cold Blooded'. His music, Prince, MJ/Jackson family, Stevie, Marvin, Lady T, MJG, Debarge, Cameo, etc., were the soundtrack of my childhood. People keep on talking about 'Street Songs' being his best, but 'Throwin Down' is his best album, hands down, IMO. RIP
