Taking your Husband's name

..or wife’s for that matter.

First - What are your thoughts on this. My wife took mine for everything except her work, she qualified under her maiden name so she keeps it for work. I didn't mind either way.

But I asked her last night what if I had a weird second name like Ramsbottom or Dickin, would she have been less inclined to change? She said it was hypothetical and stupid, so I thought I would put it to the org lol

Second - If you don't consider taking your husbands name, what do the kids end up being called?

not if it's too common, I love my surname and my kids have both surnames smile

i would change my name though i guess depends on the name and how much it meant to the other person

I've thought about mixing it up and taking my wife's surname when I get married.

Or then put 7 names in between my first and last.

Ok, so I have your vote, good.

Or I may just change my name entirely (first and last) and develop an alias:

Platypus Jones

I always though double barreling was a bit pretentious boxed I have no probs with her keeping her name or even changing mine for that matter but when it comes down to kids I suppose double barreling is the easiest hmm

Mach

its the person/people behind the names that matter most ... a name is just that ... a word called "name"

to me its irrelivent and all about personal choice

and naming kids, if you show them by exapmle ...confidence and pride and love for one another

a name is just a name

~ shrugs ~

Well just look at some examples. A woman, for example has a well regarded name Fraquar, Chippenham, Burroughs and the bloke she is to marry is a Brown, Smith or Jones. there are so many double barreled Farquar-Jones, Chippenham-Brown, Burroughs-Smith.

You never have double barreled Smith-Brown, Jones-Brown do ya?

Hence pretentious, not wrong, bad or naughty.

Is that why you did it? My father in-law is quite upset to know that none of his grandchildren will have his name and that his family will die out. He only has daughters and nieces. The question poses for kids more than us.
