This is getting interesting. I'm not too concerned about Prince being overly represented. Outside the obvious choices, I don't think there'll be that many votes for Around the World or The Rainbow Children.

I think Prince fans may just have the most diverse tase in music of any fans.

25 is a tough choice, I've seen some that I may have to reconsider--Stand and Electric Ladyland most obviously.

But why SHOULDN'T we be able to vote for Prince CDs since for most of us, he is likely in our top 50 albums?

It actually really shows how prolific he is though. hmmm I mean, damn that's a hell of a lot of albums from one man. nod That someone could actually even fill their whole list of 25 albums with everything by ONE artist. lol

I guess I just take for granted how much that man just lives in the studio.

And I'm on a PRINCE site too! lol doh!

since you're giving these each one point, i'm not listing my 25 in order of how much i like them, but rather how much i remember obsessing over them throughout my life. some of these albums i'm completely burnt out on...some of them are still part of my daily diet:

1. Purple Rain - Prince
2. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie
3. Home of the Brave - Laurie Anderson
4. Tiger Bay - Saint Etienne
5. Speaking in Tongues - Talking Heads
6. Xanadu - Soundtrack
7. Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
8. Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix Experience
9. White Album - The Beatles
10. Duckstab - The Residents
11. Without You I'm Nothing - Sandra Bernhard
12. Emperor Tomato Ketchup - Stereolab
13. Goo - Sonic Youth
14. Nevermind - Nirvana
15. OK Computer - Radiohead
16. Live Through This - Hole
17. The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
18. Dewdrops in the Garden - Deee-Lite
19. Disintegration - The Cure
20. The Sky's Gone Out - Bauhaus
21. Low - David Bowie
22. Come - Prince
23. Sign 'O' the Times - Prince
24. Parade - Prince
25. Hunky Dory - David Bowie

I tried to keep the list diverse and free of too much Prince and Bowie, but who am I trying to kid? lol
[Edited 6/3/06 6:21am]

All I ever heard from DeeLite was Groove Is In The Heart which I absolutely love. I really need to hear more of them. Is that song typical of their style? I'm hoping it's not a Sinead O' Connor situation where you try to get into her then realise the only song you like is Nothing Compares 2U.

alright that was really hard!

I tried to push myself to not just think of my current faves. Therefore albums like NIN and the Femmes made this list at the expense of others I listen to much more frequently. But those are albums that really changed MY world and the way I listened to music. And, they had a pretty big impact on the music world itself. Although they are overplayed, I will admit when I do get inspired to put either of these back in the player, they hold up QUITE well.

And, I HATE that I have no Dolly on my list. But, I didn't really want to put "Dolly Parton, Greatest hits vol 1 published by Columbia in 1984" or something like that giggle She has SO many hits packages it that it's near impossible now to find many of her classic albums in original format. And, while I LOVE her recent Bluegrass work, none of those quite merit this list. So yeah, while Dolly may not be on my list, I'd like to just give HER 100 points smile

i feel the same way about some of my favorite artists...i have so many SONGS of theirs i like, but i can't sum it up in one album. nod

That's one of the main things stopping me doing a list. That and me being a lazy bastard.

if you like "groove is in the heart", then "dewdrops in the garden" will BLOW YOU AWAY. it's like a hyper-steroided-jacked-up version of their first album. it's the best showcase of kier kirby's amazing voice (back then, anyway), and the music simply doesn't let up. even the mid-tempo mellow numbers kick ass. if you like dance music of any kind, i think this album is essential.

jimi's in my list...please don't turn my head to lasagna! lol

i nearly included "axis: bold as love" instead of "are you experienced?", but "manic depression" and "third stone from the sun" are just way too incredible, even though i have a soft spot for "axis".

No worries. mg loves to be disciplined. lol

I limited my choices to 1 per artist. And you know me, I love all his studio releases.
Although AYE? is one of the most amazing musical debuts in history, I went with what was his creative zenith in the studio.

Comps were selected for artists that were more singles that album driven.

Not to change the rules too much, but I was thinking that I should multiply the points by the number of lists an album appears on.

It seems an album that appears at #25 on 25 different lists (25 points) should rank higher than an album that appears at #1 on 1 list (25 points). That way individuals' ranking matters but so does a little agreement on our part.

Any thoughts?

Or maybe (since it's going to be top 50) #1 should be given 50 points and #25 should be given 26.

That way one vote for Britney Spears at #1 (1 x 50 = 50) would be outweighed by three votes for Marvin Gaye at #25 (3 x 26 = 78) rather than Britney #1 (1 x 25 = 25) and Marvin #25 (3 x 1 = 3).

Any math majors here? I don't want anyone to think the results are unfair. Biased, maybe, but not unfair.
